How to Get a Refund for Kindle Book Orders

We've all done it. We've been searching through lists of free Kindle books and accidentally purchased a book we thought was free. I, like many others, thought that you were just stuck with that purchase. Then I noticed something interesting on my Kindle. When I purchased a book, I noticed I could cancel the order. This got me to thinking that there must be a way to cancel orders through the website as well and there is. Here's how to get a refund for Kindle book orders.

The first step is to sign into your Amazon account. Once signed in, you'll see a link at the top that reads, Your Digital Items. The link let's you access all your digital items, but under the Kindle heading, you'll see a link that reads, Your Kindle Orders. Once clicked, you'll see all the books, blogs, etc you've ordered starting with the most recent. You'll then select the Actions tab for the book you want to return and click "Return for Refund".

You have 7 days to return your Kindle books for a refund. Once returned, you will no longer have access to the book. There are several options to choose from when selecting a reason for the return, it's not just for those accidental purchases. For example, let's say you purchase a book that is poor quality, you can get a refund. You can also get a refund if you ordered the wrong book.

It's such a relief to learn that you aren't stuck with with an accidental purchase. It's actually incredibly easy to get a refund on Kindle book orders, but you only have 7 days to do, so act quickly.

  1. OMG, I just did this on the comp the other day and thought I was stuck. I searched but couldnt find a way. I am going to do that right now! Thanks!

  2. Thank you for this post! I noticed it when I was browsing your site, but didn't read it. Then, when I mistakenly bought ten dollars worth of kindles I thought were free, I knew right where to find it! I'd like to blame Amazon, but it really does happen to everyone.
