Their mentor, the four-hundred year old Vampire, William Wakefield. Charming, ridiculously handsome, and walking a dangerous line between sinking into darkness and living in the light. In constant temptation to declare his love for the one witch that could be his undoing.

The story begins with an unsolved murder. One that will change everything…

Come stalk the streets of The Demon Isle… you’ll go up against witches, vampires, werewolves, demons, guardians, shapeshifters, ghosts, ghasts, mermaids, faeries and a host of other devious supernatural creatures waiting to wreak havoc on The Demon Isle. Where fans of the paranormal come to vacation and immerse themselves in fantasy. Where magic comes to life, mysteries abound, and you might just find yourself laughing, crying, and most definitely, falling in love.

In Volume One:

Melinda Howard is the Demon Isle’s weird girl. The one that’s been holed up in the Howard Mansion for the last four years. Why? No one knows the truth except her family... a long line of witches charged with protecting the Demon Isle, along with their mentor, the four-hundred year old Vampire, William Wakefield.

Another reason Melinda doesn’t mind her self-inflicted imprisonment. She gets to spend her days with the charming vampire, who also happens to be her best friend. Only now, she’s spending her night’s with him too. He just doesn’t know it…

Any other girl would enjoy the nightly thrill of her vampire crush invading her dreams. But not Melinda as her dreams have a tendency to come true. Although typically, they don’t include the handsome vampire she’s crushing on, but rather horrifying visions of people about to die.

But she cannot stay under self-inflicted house arrest forever. And if her brothers or William get their choice in the matter, Melinda will be out of the house partying with her friends, giving her affections to a human, not a vampire, and digging into her role as a witch.

A role her eldest brother Charlie lives for and a role her second brother Michael would rather live without. Nevertheless, when duty calls, usually from the local sheriff needing help with some tourist who’s gotten themselves into trouble, life screeches to a stop, and duty takes over.

Such is the case when the sheriff needs help with an unsolved murder investigation; one she fears has a supernatural cause. To assist her in the case, she calls upon the skills of The Howard Witches.

However, what they learn might be more than any of them can deal with, or accept. Worse yet, they fear what this discovery will do to Melinda, as it returns them all to the core of her self-imprisonment.

Back to the lives, she could not save...

Reflections on a Writing Career by Author Peggy Webb

At a time when most women my age are slowing down and/or retiring, I continue to burn with the love of storytelling – as well as burn the midnight oil. I started writing in 1985 and haven’t been without a deadline since. My early work was in contemporary romantic comedy. Next I turned my pen to women’s fiction, comedic cozy mysteries, and literary fiction (written as Elaine Hussey).
My body of work includes 70 plus novels in multi-genres. Currently, I’m writing another literary fiction novel, planning a stunning project for fall with two other USA Today bestselling authors, and revising eight romantic comedy classics to bring you the Sunday Cove series. These books are just plain fun. The first three are available now and a perfect way to get through the winter – Naughty and Nice, Birds of a Feather, and Disturbing the Peace.
I am still on fire with writing, and I think that’s what growth is all about – having a great passion for what you do. Though I make very few rules, preferring instead to be live spontaneously and be a seat-of-the-pants writer, I do follow my passion. I take risks, too, and always, always believe in myself. I hope you will, too.
Peggy Webb is a member of PEN as Elaine Hussey and is the most prolific writer the state of Mississippi has ever produced. Learn more at her websites, www.peggywebb.com and www.elainehussey.com.

First Page Check List by Author Ruth A. Casie

I've been catching up with my inbox. It was getting out of hand. Between being in my cave writing, Thanksgiving and the holidays well, lets just say I needed an intervention. One of the gems I unearthed was a post by Ray Rhamey of the Flogged Quill, The Challenge: Does This Narrative Compel You To Turn the Page?

It's the first page that grabs the reader. Many times its the first sentence. Here is Ray's first-page checklist:

  • It begins connecting the reader with the protagonist.
  • Something is happening. On a first page, this does NOT include a character musing about whatever.
  • What happens is dramatized in an immediate scene with action and description plus, if it works, dialogue.
  • What happens moves the story forward.
  • What happens has consequences for the protagonist.
  • The protagonist desires something.
  • The protagonist does something.
  • There's enough of a setting to orient the reader as to where things are happening.
  • It happens in the NOW of the story.
  • Backstory? What backstory? We're in the NOW of the story.
  • Set-up? What set-up? We're in the NOW of the story.
  • What happens raises a story question-what happens next? or why did that happen?
I remember the first draft of my first story. I eagerly read it at literary group meeting to three well published authors. I had worked hard on the story especially the opening. I saw it as a movie. The first thing I see in a movie is the setting. So, I diligently, and meticulously, described the scene.

Are you laughing? They loved the description. They told me to save it for someplace else but to come up with something more compelling. It was replaced with a fight scene.

Think about some of the books you've read or written. How did they begin? What did you like, or not like about it?

CASE # 19 – CINDERELLA AND THE MAN IN CHARGE

“You must be Mr. Dirk,” I said as the young man took my right hand between his cool, smooth hands. “I understand you need my help here at the zoo.” Mr. Dirk pulled me toward him. I didn’t mind because he was quite personable, younger though shorter than Prince C, with even features and slick brown hair that matched his brown uniform, its creases crisp. Glancing down, I noticed that he was barefoot. That’s odd, I thought.
Mr. Dirk and I stood near the entrance to the Kingdom Zoo. Of course, my family, animal-lovers all, scattered the instant they hit the gate. Prince C with Sophie, our youngest, on his shoulders, the two of them looking like a totem pole, went off to see the bears. Our oldest child Artie, along with his girlfriend Cinderannie, she of the piercings and totally black wardrobe, went somewhere else, but Boxy, our middle child, right on the cusp of adolescence, hung around a while to toss fish to the seals in their big pool near the front gate. “Arrrf! Arrrf! Arrrf!” barked the seals before Boxy took off, too.
Now I must admit that I wasn’t thinking much about my folks, not even my husband, Prince C. By then, I was enchanted by Mr. Dirk’s big dark eyes. “What is this all about?” I asked.
“Hey, Ma, look at me. No hands.”
I whirled around when I heard the voice and a thumping on the ground. Boxy galloped by on an ostrich. The bird flapped its wings. The kid flapped his arms. Behind them ran an attendant, flapping a leash. Reminded of my marital status by my son, I sprang away from Mr. Dirk. Then I shouted, “Watch out” as Boxy on his mount almost ran down some dwarf sightseers. But they jumped to safety in the geranium beds on either side of the path. “I must apologize for the behavior of my son, Mr. Dirk. I’ll just go after him and–”
I noticed that Mr. Dirk had luscious eyelashes, lying like silken brown butterflies on his cheeks. Then he opened those gorgeous eyes again, smiled and I thought, Oh no, he’s even got a dimple on his right cheek.
As if I were under a spell, he led me to a bench. We sat, knees facing each other. I wore a frilly yellow frock, sandals more comfortable than they looked, and a straw hat with a wide brim to keep the sun out of my eyes. Good thing, too, because I was already dazzled by Mr. Dirk.
Just then, close by, an elephant trumpeted, and there came Artie and Cinderannie, riding way up high in the tasseled box on the gray back. They waved before they went back to smooching. The elephant, its harness held by its keeper, plodded on.
I scooted away from Mr. Dirk as Prince C, with Sophie in front of him, rode up on a tall, trudging camel led by a guy in a tan burnoose. I fanned my blush away with my hand.
When they’d passed, I felt Mr. Dirk’s warm breath on my neck and got goose bumps. Up I jumped. “Why don’t we walk around the zoo? That way you can show me the problem you need my help with.”
Mr. Dirk wasn’t much with words, but as he guided me along the paths, I got the picture.
Sure, the two young gorillas played hide and seek around the corner between their outer cage and their inner one, but they’d have had lots more fun if they could scamper around in their larger habitat that had plants and rocks and real tree branches. A barred door shut off that part, though.
Further on, a lioness nursed her two cubs. As we passed, she glared at me with her golden eyes and bared her teeth as if to warn us away from her babies. Outside her cage extended substantial acreage designed to look like the veldt, but it didn’t have even a single animal of any kind in it.
The aviary was made like a greenhouse, all of glass panels, only instead of being level, it went up a hill, with doors top and bottom. In there, no birds flew and no birds sang, but we passed lots of filled cages. In one sat a raven using a glossy black feather held in his beak to guide a kernel of corn across the ground toward the cage, but he never got the corn close enough to pull through the bars.
Mr. Dirk released my elbow, knelt, picked up a handful of corn, and put it in the cage. The raven pecked hungrily at the grain.
When Mr. Dirk stood up again, he smiled at me and I about fell into his deep dark eyes. “I think I see the problem here,” I said. “But why are all the animals caged like this when they have perfectly lovely habitats? What has happened here?”

The Currents of Scorpio (The Zodiac Mysteries Book 3) by Kaye Freemartin

$5.99 or FREE for Prime Members

Imagine Another Earth Ruled by Astrology

Author Kaye Freemartin has created an alternate world called Astrogea where everyone lives by the stars.

In Book 3, the water sign territories have succumbed to the Paragons. There's a new administration, new restrictions and a new danger lurking in the minds of the men who hold the reins of power in government; and on eerie, isolated Triton Isle there are those who seek power from another, otherworldly source.

A storm is coming. . .

In the middle of the maelstrom is Brooke Otto, a Cuspian who brings the fury of water and air together in one extraordinary being.

On the surface, the life of young, beautiful artist Brooke Otto seems enviable. She’s married to fabulously wealthy Marius Greenway and lives on his waterfront estate on touristy Triton Isle. Their marriage, however, is a loveless one. She still nurses a broken heart from her relationship with Douglas Rubio, and Marius is bewitched by his lover, Ceto Waverly, who lives in The Cove, the island’s only town. Most important of all, Brooke is a Cuspian, born on the cusp of two different signs, which, in astrology-ruled Astrogea, makes her a distrusted, reviled outcast. Brooke’s two signs—Libra and Scorpio—are in constant opposition, nearly driving her to the brink of madness. In this unstable atmosphere, her rare nature and talents are exploited, and her very life at stake.

Facebook and Authors by Patricia Green

Well, the time has come, my friends. Facebook is ratcheting up their revenue model. Now, they hope to make a few billion dollars on "boosted" posts as well. What does that mean?

Some of you (I hope most of you) have seen my Facebook ads. I buy one whenever I have a new book released. I find it introduces the books to new readers and reminds current readers that there's more Patricia Green to enjoy. "Boosted" Facebook posts, on the other hand, are regular professional page Facebook posts that an author wants to particularly emphasize. Currently, 10% or fewer of my author page "likers" actually see my posts. That's another tricky bit of Facebook wisdom. So if I want more people to see my posts, I have to buy boosts. A boost delivers my post to more of my fans and their friends as well. So I actually do get my posts out to the people who've liked my page, so long as I'm willing to pay $10 to do it. For every post. Which, for me, adds up to $10 per day, or $3650 per year. How do you like them apples?

Do you think I can afford $3650 per year plus regular ads that cost a few hundred dollars a piece? If money grew on trees…

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm aware that I've been riding on the Facebook gravy train for the time I've had my author page. It's been free marketing and I'm grateful for what I got. Furthermore, Facebook is not a charity; they have to make a profit or their shareholders get ticked off, and with good reason. When one buys stock in a company, one expects the stock to go up in value, otherwise, why invest? I don't think Facebook is greedy or underhanded. They're doing what any good business ought to do. It's just too bad that struggling artists like me are going to be the ones taking the biggest hit.

My problem is: how do I reach my fans and new readers? It's a fact of life that without readers, I'm out of business. So here's what I would ask of you (you knew there'd be a request in her somewhere, I'm sure), sign up for subscriptions to your favorite authors’ blogs. Mine is here. Most authors will include posts with excerpts, blog hops, prizes, new release notices, articles about relevant things that they hope will inspire you to greatness whether you're an author or a grocery clerk or something else. Occasionally blogs have guests. Virtually always, you can unsubscribe at any time. Tell a friend as well, especially people who have been using Facebook to reach authors like me.

That's my new model and the model to which most authors will migrate. I'll be beating that drum for a while over on Facebook, to try to get folks to sign up with blogs instead of relying on Facebook to deliver the goods. I don’t know how many authors will be eliminating their Facebook pages, but, as Facebook works toward a total ad revenue model, they will be reaching fewer and fewer of you there. I'll be missing you and, if I've done my job right thus far, you might miss me, too. So sign up, tell your friends and I'll tell mine. Let's work with what we've got rather than kvetching about what we can't have.

Wish me luck!

So when Roger announces his plans to leave after Christmas to visit his family have changed and he won’t be back for New Year’s Eve, Pam fears the worst. Forced by hunger to accept Roger’s offer of dinner, Pam realizes the geek she used to be married to has transformed into one of the most charming, sexiest men she’s ever met. His newfound confidence—and hot body—re-kindles old fires. A simple kiss leads Roger to challenge her to discover how much his lovemaking skills have improved, leaving Pam torn between self-preservation and burning desire.
With time running out before they’re rescued, Pam must decide if her heart can survive the consequences of becoming Roger’s “almost” perfect night.

Review:

Such a great collection. Read along as a couple goes from hot to cold and back again. It's a fast-paced, fun, sexy read that will keep you turning the pages.

The Long Way Home by Staci Stallings Excerpt

$0.99 or FREE for Prime Members

Sent from Chicago to the Kansas Flint Hills on family business, Jaxton Anderson finds himself in conflict with Ami Martin from their very first meeting. Yet he cannot stop thinking about the stubborn young woman and her struggle to keep her own family farm by turning it into a bed and breakfast. Each time he tries to draw closer to her, he makes the situation worse until a series of crises throws Jaxton and Ami together in unexpected ways.

THE LONG WAY HOME is an adventure of love and reconciliation. Touching on themes of faith, family, and fortunes, it asks the characters and the reader "Who are you, and where do you want to be when you're eighty?"

Excerpt:

Jaxton had always prided himself for being able to find any address in Chicago— no matter how bad the directions were, but after driving up and down identical farm roads for 45 minutes, he knew he was lost. In fact, if he’d been forced to give directions back to the main highway at that moment, he’d have been in major trouble.
“Whose stupid idea was this anyway?” he asked, the frustration pouring out of him as he turned into a tree-lined driveway.
The farmhouse just beyond the trees looked like it was about a hundred years old as did every other building on the place, and as he killed the engine and looked around, he wondered if anyone even lived here anymore. In fact, the thought crossed his mind that the whole place would probably be better off if a wrecking ball just took it out of its misery.
Slowly he crawled from the car and stretched as his legs and back reminded him how long he’d actually been behind that wheel. He took a deep breath, smoothed his tie, and shook his head at just how far he’d fallen in such a short time. As he climbed the steps up to the front door, he couldn’t help but notice that the whole place was covered with chipped white paint, and the wooden porch boards creaked and groaned as he crossed the porch threshold and knocked. Putting his fists on his hip where his slacks met his belt, he arched his neck and waited, looked around and waited some more. He knocked once more.
When no one appeared, he backed up and peeked through the window. He could vaguely make out a sofa and a chair sitting by the far wall, but as for people, he saw no one.
“Well, so much for that idea.” He shrugged to the ceiling of the porch as he stepped back down onto the cracked sidewalk. He really should’ve known he couldn’t get that lucky. This whole rotten day was just another notch to add to his whole rotten life. Letting the anger and bitterness take hold, he rubbed his hand over the five-o’clock shadow that had shown up two hours early. It must be the stress.
“Yes, Dad. Whatever you say, Dad,” he said, the sarcasm dripping from each word. But just as he reached for the car door handle, his ears picked up something he hadn’t noticed before. Music.
Curious but fighting back the hope, he turned and headed for the sound.

“Okay, baby,” Ami warned as she lay under the front fender, wrench in hand. “If this doesn’t help, I’m afraid we’re going to have to give you last rites.”

The graying boards were clearly visible under the peeling red paint of the old garage, and Jaxton could see the decrepit green pickup sitting forlornly in the middle of it. Some old farmer’s. How backward can these people be? Man, I wouldn’t be caught dead in something like that.
The tune on the radio reminded him of hoe down music although he’d never actually been to a hoe down in his life. He looked around the small expanse, but there was no sign of anyone— only the small radio sitting on the workbench crackling something about a broken heart.
“GRRRRRHHH!”
Before Jaxton could react to the sound, a wrench flew out from underneath the pickup and hit the cinderblock wall next to his foot with a clang. Instantly he jumped out of the way although another couple of inches and the thing would have nailed him before he saw it coming. For one, brief moment his head said he should run— just get out of there before the farmer had a chance to turn that wrench on him, but then he thought better of the crazy thought. All he needed was some information. Surely that wasn’t such a bad thing.
“Uh-hmm.” Jaxton cleared his throat, hoping to get the old man’s attention. “Umm, excuse me, Sir. Sir?” He rapped a knuckle on the side of the pickup in case the old farmer hadn’t heard him and leaned down as if to see under the vehicle.

Heart, body, and soul Ami froze the instant she heard the voice. Her mind spun through who it might be and what they might want. She wasn’t expecting anyone, and people didn’t just show up on her doorstep for no reason. After all she lived more than a mile from the highway.  Quickly she looked out from under the metal pickup body, and all she could see was a pair of black slacks ending in a set of shiny black shoes.
“Sir?” the voice said again, and she fought to gather what was left of her nerves from around her.
“Hmm. Yeah.” She cleared her throat and rolled slowly out on the creeper before sitting up and pulling herself up from the floor. “Something I can help you with?”

“Oh,” Jaxton said with a hard swallow, thrown totally off-guard when he caught a glimpse of the grease-stained beauty who’d just stood up in front of the pickup. Gray tank top, denim shorts, and a face that was at once young and heart-stopping, she was the epitome backwoods country, and for one second too long, Jaxton forgot he was supposed to be asking for directions. “Um.” Where had all the words gone? And why were the only ones he could find telling him embarrassing jokes about farmer’s daughters and Daisy Duke shorts? “Uh. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean... I thought... I’m sorry.”

“’S okay,” Ami said quickly wiping the grease from her hands and coming around to the side of the pickup. She wanted to tug on her tank top, but she didn’t dare let him think she was nervous, so instead she worked on removing the grease from her fingers. At the fender she regarded him as she leaned there.
“Umm... I... I was looking for the owner,” the guy that looked like a GQ model said. He had slightly wavy dark brown hair clipped and cut just so, a multi-hued blue striped tie over a crisp light blue button down. In fact, he looked like he’d just stepped out of a board room from a million-dollar deal.
Still, Ami fought not to notice or to let the intimidation of his presence rattle her. She brushed one strand of hair back off her face. “That would be me.” Although she tried, it wasn’t easy to act like this was an everyday occurrence as she extended her still-stained hand to the Armani-suited man standing in her garage, but she did a passing job of it just the same.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” he said again as he extended his own hand. When she looked at him and tilted her head with a half-confused smile, he tried to clarify that statement even as he retrieved his hand. “I mean I’m not sorry you own the place. I’m sorry I didn’t realize...”
Ami smiled then, knowing the best defense was a good, strong, full-on offense. “You’re not from around here, are you?”

Her smile, framed by those deep dimples, was dancing circles around Jaxton’s heart as his brainwaves zipped and zinged in disparate directions. “Umm, no. I’m not. How can you tell?”
“Your shoes.” She pointed at his feet before returning to the front of the pickup. “They’re too shiny to be a farm boy’s.”
He looked down at his shoes but never saw them, and when he looked up again, the only thing his mind could concentrate on was the curve of her face under the wisps of hair trailing down the two braids. Gorgeous did not do her justice.

“Well, Sir, I have a full set of Encyclopedias, and I’m not in the market for insurance or a vacuum cleaner,” Ami said as casually as she could, and she slammed the hood for punctuation. The pickup would have to wait. Right now, her main priority was figuring out exactly what this guy was doing in her garage, and then getting him out of there as fast as possible.
“Oh, I’m not selling anything,” he said as she moved over to the workbench. Having tools within reach if he tried anything was a very good idea. “I was just looking for the Snyder farm, but I... I seem to have gotten lost.”
She turned an inquisitive, confused and concerned gaze on him. “The Snyder farm?”

“Yeah.” Jaxton hesitated. For some reason the tone in her voice and the look in her eye made his nerves jump to attention, and the mere thought that this farm girl was getting to him unnerved him further. He smoothed his tie down as if to emphasize his station in life compared to hers. “Umm, I’m Mr. Snyder’s grandson. I was supposed to come help him, but I can’t do that if I can’t find him.”
It was supposed to be a joke, but it thudded like a lead brick on the dusty floor between them.
“Oh.” Her eyes narrowed as she nodded knowingly, and her smile disappeared as she turned back to the workbench. “Well, if Mr. Snyder’s your grandfather, seems to me you should know how to get to his farm.”
“Yeah... well, it’s been a few years since I’ve been around here, and I wasn’t driving at the time,” he said, running out of steam mid-excuse.
Her brown braids twisted side-to-side with her head as she worked cleaning and replacing the tools. For his part, Jaxton was left trying desperately to keep his mind away from the long, tanned legs curving below the denim shorts that were making thinking straight increasingly difficult.
“So, you’re from California then?” she asked, straightening the tools on the wall, her back to him as if she wasn’t interrogating him. However, he felt every syllable of the challenge.
“No, Chicago.” He ripped his mind away from the gentle curve where her tank top met her shorts. “Why?”

“Just wondering,” Ami said, but wondering was the last thing on her mind. Next to her grandfather, Mr. Snyder was the only person on the planet who’d ever believed in her, and she wasn’t about to sic this shiny-shoed, tie-wearing, smooth-talking shark on him without checking out his story first. “So, your mom…”
“Elizabeth,” he supplied as if he sensed he was being quizzed.
“She sent you down here?”
“Yeah.”
“Uh-huh.” She nodded again as she replaced a wrench on the wall. “And why didn’t she come?”
The guy shifted feet. “She’s busy.”
“Must be awful important to be too busy to come see her dad,” she mumbled not altogether to herself.
“Well, she said she might come later.” He shrugged as if they were talking about the weather, not a whole family abandoning their father. “But Grandpa needed someone now.”
“I see,” she said, thinking of all the times she had been witness to Mr. Snyder’s talks with her own grandfather. She knew more about Mr. Snyder’s family than she did about her own, and she didn’t like a single one of them. “And this is important now— why?”

“Oh, well, I don’t know if you know it, but my grandpa had a heart attack a few months ago,” Jaxton said as his mind suddenly caught up with the conversation, and immediately asked him why he felt the need to justify his visit to a total stranger. “This was the first chance we’ve had to come and see him.”
“I see,” she said again slowly and the angelic quality of her voice had been replaced by ice. That tone was beginning to grate his nerves as he ripped his gaze from her and glued it to the old pickup.
“Look, I really didn’t mean to bother you,” he finally said, and his annoyance with the whole situation screamed through every word. “I’ll just drive back to town and see if someone there can help me.”

She heard him turn to leave and then start out.
“Go out to the road and turn right.” Ami turned and surveyed him coldly, wrench in hand and arms crossed at her chest. “About two miles down the road off to the left, you’ll see the Snyder place. It’s the one with the trees. You can’t miss it.”

He fought not to bristle under the scrutiny of the almond-eyed she-beast. “Thank you.”
And these people think city people are unfriendly, he thought as the anger rose to his clenched fists.
“No problem,” she said, and she turned back to her workbench without another look.
Jaxton’s gaze fused to her for one more moment as he seriously thought about telling her just where she could put her judgments, but with a shake of his head, he forced his gaze down to the dust-covered floor. His chest might explode at any second with the rage clawing through him. Who was this person, this girl, to question him anyway?  What had he done that was so wrong?  He was just following orders— trying to be the good son. He kicked the wrench and sent it flying back into the cinderblock wall with a clang before stomping out of the garage.
She had no right to make him feel like a jerk. It wasn’t his fault his family didn’t come to visit. There was nothing to do here anyway. Situated a million miles from nowhere, Rayland was the most boring, backward place on the whole earth, and the second he got the estate in order, he was gone.

Review:

I'm a huge fan of CSI and Criminal Minds, etc so I loved that this one focused more on the crime. I also loved that the author incorporated a psychic character. I have to say that the the author brought all the elements together with great writing skills to craft one of the best editions of the series.

Simple and Effective Mindfulness from the Universe By Author Carrie Louise

A sample page from Life, Soul Being Soul

I AM
      SAFE
             SAFE
                     SAFE
                       SAFE
                           SAFE
                                                  SAFE
                                                             SAFE

        I AM

For the moment, I’ll ask that you consider that your higher power, aka intuition, chose this word. It is early in the day, and you have finished your morning routine of reading a passage from another source and perhaps exercised. You have now become quietly focused and requested that the best word for you for today be given to you. Thus, as you ‘randomly’ opened the book, this was the page you now have. This has happened in a minute or less.

Unlike predetermined passages from a daily calendar or book, this word upon which you’ll focus will be typically unique only to you. In order to remember it easily throughout the day, there is only one word and you’ll repeat it 21 times. As you continue to get ready for the day, ideas about its significance will surface. You’ll remain aware of it at some level so that when a meaningful opportunity presents itself, you are ready to apply the meaning at whatever level feels comfortable.

I can think of a few different meanings the word ‘safe’ may have. Perhaps all these surface for a person. Most likely, only one significant meaning will be prominent today.
a) There is concern about the safety of self or another. This concern is affecting your focus and mood. By redirecting your thoughts with the repetition of ‘safe’, you are more at ease. Also, it is more likely that by focusing on a positive outcome, a positive outcome will occur.
b) Deep in a hidden place of memory, you’ve been aware that an old event still lurks. You’ve been working with a resolution. Now suddenly your higher self has presented you with the word ‘safe’ and some of your confidence in this resolution is increased. Again, when having this confidence, it is much more likely to reach resolution than when constantly focusing on the negative.

As you can see, this daily process is slow and steady. The process and level of participation is strictly up to you. No one is explaining how to think about the word or what its meaning might hold for you. At the end of the day, you will be able to take a moment to reflect on how you were ultimately empowered by the word choice and what it has meant to be more intimately involved in the day. Tomorrow, there will be a new word. Or perhaps a recent word choice will be repeated. Higher power, aka intuition, is asking you to revisit another level of meaning.

I’ve been using this method from this one book for fifteen years. I am truly amazed at the accuracy of each word. At times, I’m very grateful that I’ve been given the latitude of participation, because, frankly, I have more or less energy and enthusiasm that day.

Ten of approximately 120 words from which to choose: mind; spirit; happy; generous; explorer; hearing; compassionate; effortless; aware; & thankful.

Three tales of a not quite perfect relationship:

An Almost Perfect Meeting: Does the right place and the wrong time equal the almost perfect couple?

When Pam Kimball’s plans to play Janet at a Rocky Horror Picture Show get derailed, she’s determined to go on with the show. She commandeers the first guy she sees—a tall, sexy, geeky stranger—to be her Brad. The guy knows nothing about the show, but plays along, stunning her with a kiss in the middle of the performance. Pam feels his interest while they dance and decides to make a bold next move.

Roger Ware’s come for a midnight showing of a classic movie, only to find a cult classic playing instead. To make it worse, he’s dragged onto the stage by a forceful brunette who won’t take “no” for an answer. Not that Roger wants to say no after one impulsive kiss gets him fired up for more. When Pam invites herself over after the show, her seduction is clear, but will it continue once Roger reveals one embarrassing secret?

An Almost Perfect Christmas: Is love enough to make their Christmas perfect?

As Pam Kimball and her computer geek boyfriend, Roger Ware, prepare to celebrate their first Christmas together, Pam is having doubts about their relationship. Roger can barely stop working at his new software business long enough to join her under the tree. And when he does, her present to him backfires, bringing their lovemaking plans to a crashing halt. So when Roger announces his plans to leave after Christmas to visit his family have changed and he won’t be back for New Year’s Eve, Pam fears the worst. Does the man she loves really care for her, or might a break-up be her present this Christmas Eve? Will there be enough magic in the air to turn this disastrous Christmas into a perfect one?

An Almost Perfect Night: Can their love turn “almost perfect” into one perfect night?

Pamela Kimball’s birthday present, a One Perfect Night adventure, promises to jump-start her life, put a new man in her bed, and help her forget her past. Unfortunately, movie-buff Pam’s Pirates of the Caribbean fantasy takes an alarming wrong turn when she’s abandoned on a not quite deserted island—with ex-husband Roger Ware.

Excerpt #1 from An Almost Perfect Night
If you’re skinny dipping, you forgot to remove one very important piece of clothing.”
She shrieked and whirled around.
Roger stood on the beach behind her, a green bottle of Perrier in one hand. His gaze played up and down her naked torso, and his salacious grin widened. “Mind if I join you?”
She gasped, wrapping her arms across her chest to shield her breasts from his hot gaze. “What the hell are you doing back here?”
I came to make peace.” He waved the bottle at her. “Thought you might be thirsty by now.”
Her gaze fastened on the green glass, her mouth suddenly dry as sand. She stepped toward him then froze as she glanced at his face.
Roger stared at her, his eyes sparkling with excitement. He wiggled the bottle, challenging her to take it.
She’d be damned if she’d accept anything from him. Not here, anyway. That would make her feel weak, dependent. She eyed the condensation on the bottle. A single drop ran down the side, hung for a second at the bottom then plopped into the sand.
Shit. Right now, she was weak, dependent, and thirsty.
Come on, Pam. It’s only water.” He still held the tempting thing out to her. Hell. She marched up to him, her steps as loud as she could make them on the packed sand. Stopping an arm’s length from him, she peeled one hand away from her breasts and shifted her other to cover as much as possible. For once, she thanked God for a B cup. She snared the bottle and shot him a look of triumph, only to realize the bottle was capped. To open it, she’d have to use her other hand.
Furious, she shifted her gaze from the tantalizing object to his gleeful eyes. “Would you open this for me, please?”
Suddenly lost all your strength, have you, hon?” His eyes took on a hunger she remembered. “It’s not as if I haven’t seen your breasts before.”
Then you don’t need to see them again, do you?” Heat rose in her cheeks. He was enjoying this way too much. “Come on, open it. You said it was a peace offering.”
And these are part of the peace negotiations.” He stood, arms crossed over his muscled chest, better looking than she remembered.
Not fair.
I’m bored, Pam. My date still hasn’t turned up, so I thought I’d come harass you a while. I’ll tell you what.” He reached for the Perrier and unscrewed the cap, but didn’t offer it to her. “You show me yours, I’ll show you mine.”
And why would I want to see yours again?” She fixed her gaze on the bottle resting at his hips, watching the carbonated bubbles rise to the top, willing herself not to let her gaze stray toward his crotch.
For old time’s sake?” His eyes flashed with mischief as he tipped the sparkling water up and started to drink.
She stared, her parched lips opened in outrage. Glug, glug. He was making that sound on purpose. Was he going to drink the whole damned thing?
After swallowing at least a third of the contents, he came up for air. “Ah! Hits the spot every time.” He grinned. “Still can’t take a joke? Too bad. Here.” He thrust it toward her.
Pam grabbed the bottle with both hands and shoved the end into her mouth so quickly the glass clicked against her teeth. Greedily, she sucked in and almost choked. The exquisite lime-flavored water rushed into her body to hydrate parched cells. Three more guzzles, and she breathed deeply, satisfied for the moment.
She wiped her hand across her chin where she’d dribbled and held the bottle out to him, but his slack-jawed attention was riveted on her chest. Which meant….
You still look fine, Pam. Mighty fine.” Her ex-husband licked his lips, his grin reaching almost ear to ear.
Damn it, Roger.” She wrapped her arms around her breasts so fast she hit herself with the bottle. If there hadn’t still been some water left, she would’ve brained him with it.
He reached down and slipped off his sandals then untied his drawstring, all the while grinning like a fool. With one swift movement, he shucked his pants to reveal a hard, tanned body, complete with a seriously large erection.
She hadn’t seen that coming.

Excerpt #2 from An Almost Perfect Christmas
Pam Kimball sat in front of their small but full Christmas tree, mashing down the tape on the festive green and red holly wrapping paper, finishing the final present, thank God. She grabbed the last bow, bright blue that didn’t go with the paper, but the only one left in the bag. The thought counted, not the wrapping, right? She placed the gift under the tree on top of the small mountain of presents she had gotten her boyfriend.
Come on, Roger.  Christmas Eve is almost over and we haven’t opened our gifts yet.” She checked the clock on the wall beside the front door. Eleven thirty-five. Still enough time. She leaned forward and dug through the pile, searching for the right box.
Be there in a second, babe.”  The hushed, absent-minded tone carried from the dining room where her boyfriend sat at his computer, eyes glued to the screen as they had been all night.
That’s what you said an hour ago,” she mumbled, then seized the big square package she had been looking for and carefully pulled it from the bottom of the heap.  “Now, Roger Ware.  Or you’re going to be sorry!”  She added a playful lilt to the last word.  This was their first Christmas as a couple and she was determined it would be perfect.
She had helped decorate his small apartment by putting up the tree, draping woodland garland around the living room, lighting a scented candle with a balsam fragrance, and even putting electric candles in the two windows. Now the room glowed with a romantic aura, lit by the candles and the twinkling white lights of the Christmas tree. The local cable company had even cooperated by playing White Christmas starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. Her absolute favorite Christmas movie. She breathed deeply, waiting for magic to happen.
I’m here.  I’m here.  Where’s the fire?”  Roger plopped his tall frame down next to her. Dressed in an old dark blue flannel shirt and jeans he looked good enough to eat.
Right here.”  She grabbed his face, pulling his lips onto hers.  Tingles shot down her arms—always did every time he kissed her.  He settled his arms around her and drew her closer.  His tongue thrust into her mouth, probing her with bold sweeps.  Pam moaned and clutched him, pressing against his chest until he toppled backward onto the carpet with her on top.
He disengaged their mouths long enough to say, “We should have started this in the bedroom.”
Oh, we’re heading there.” In the two months that they’d been dating, most of their evenings had ended with them making love. One of her favorite things to do was to get him all hot and bothered. Like now. She ground her hips against his and was rewarded with a groan from above and hardness from below.  “But you need to open a present first.”
But it’s not Christmas yet.”  He ran his hands down her sides, under her jeans to cup her butt.  “Can I open this one?”

Excerpt #3 from An Almost Perfect Meeting

Roger hurried over to the ticket booth, barely big enough for the girl standing behind the counter to squeeze into. “One for the midnight showing.” He forked over the seven dollars, grabbed the ticket, and rushed through the doors. Apparently you had to see the beginning or you’d never figure out what was happening.
The lights hadn’t dimmed yet, so he glanced around, surprised by how packed the theatre was. Where would he find a seat? Not down in front, please, God. He headed down the aisle, searching for an empty seat.
He’d gone down three rows when he began to notice the odd way most of the moviegoers were dressed. Many wore black formal evening clothes with multi-colored party hats. Others seemed to be wearing a very skimpy French maid’s costume. Then there was one guy who looked like he’d come from a meeting of Hell’s Angels. Most bizarre, however, were two or three men towering over everyone on black platform shoes, with their bare chests half-covered by a laced corset, wearing black briefs and fishnet stockings held up with a garter belt.
What the hell? Were they having a costume contest? He shrugged. It was Halloween, after all.
Fuck it. He’d come back next week, if Memento was still playing, and enjoy it without so much commotion. Roger began to slowly back up the aisle. Maybe they wouldn’t notice him. He took two steps and bumped into someone. He froze then turned little by little, afraid of what he might see.
The girl had dressed normally, for someone stuck in the 70s. She wore a yellow coat dress, a straw hat with a wide brim, and had long, wavy brown hair. Cute. Definitely cute. Not that Roger had any illusions that someone like her would notice him. He hadn’t dated anyone since his senior prom in high school and that, for lack of anyone else, had been his cousin.
She’d been talking to a guy in costume seated at the end of the row, and he’d practically upended her into his lap. Before he could utter a word of apology, though, she straightened and her face lit up as if he were the answer to her prayers. His heart hammered.
Thank God.” She shoved a pair of black plastic glasses onto his face. “I need a Brad.”
Had she lost her boyfriend? He shook his head. “I’m Roger.”
I don’t care if your name’s Elvis, you’re Brad tonight!”
The petite brunette grabbed his hand and hauled him toward the front of the theatre. Too shocked to resist, Roger staggered down the aisle until he stood underneath the twenty-foot movie screen, a completely different perspective from any he’d ever had before. He gazed around, trying to take it all in.
A few people here and there had dressed normally and were sitting quietly, waiting for the show to begin. Most of the oddly-dressed people filling the theatre, however, were laughing and talking. Some were hopping around then thrusting their hips in a very lewd way. Jerry and Frank hadn’t mentioned such goings on. It must be because of Halloween. No other explanation for so many weirdos in one place.
I take it you haven’t played Brad before?” The girl’s words pulled him back from his contemplation of the madness surrounding him.
Who’s Brad?” Roger frowned, gazing down into her upturned face. Her long brown hair didn’t actually suit her, but the big brown eyes did. A petite powerhouse. He knew the type. Too much to hope she was into computers too.
Brad Majors.” She stared at him as if the name should’ve meant something to him. “As in Brad and Janet?”
He frowned, bewildered.
Her eyes got wide. “Oh crap, don’t tell me you’re a virgin?”

Review:

Oh. My. God. This was awesome and, more importantly, unique. I've read more vampire novels than I care to count and, while I love them dearly, many are the same stories told with different characters. This was something different. I highly recommend this to anyone that loves paranormal romance and vampires.

Title: Wings, a Cinderella, P. I. Novel
Series: The Cinderella, P. I. Mysteries Book 3
Author: Juliet Kincaid
Genre: Mystery
Pages: 316
Price: $3.99 or FREE for Prime Members
Thoughts: Such a great series!

Book Synopsis:

Like Walls, the first of the two books in the Cinderella, P. I. Saga, Wings isn’t for kids. It’s not a fairy tale. It isn’t about happily ever after. It’s a story of a woman who must become a hero to save her loved ones and her land.

Weakened by months of abuse, both direct and insidious, Cinderella has escaped the cold, bare walls that confined her for so long. She flies home on Mother Goose in search of Prince Charming, who has disappeared, and their sons, who’ve gone missing as well.

Am too late? she worries. Too late? Too late? Too late?

Once at home, she meets old enemies and confronts many dangers. The man who claims to be the King’s long lost brother has built a trap for her inside the Royal Palace where he holds the King captive. The King’s brother also hints that an apple Ella ate while imprisoned has poisoned her in some evil way. A dragon attacks her. Her stepmother and stepsisters accost her, too, though with words instead of flame. Some unknown enemy has turned Sophie, Ella and Prince Charming’s daughter, into a violent changeling. And something has happened to spring so the people throughout the Kingdom of AzureSky face famine and starvation.

Yet Ella has allies, both old and new. She has her sense of humor, skills of detection, and her loving heart to help her.

With these, does Ella have the strength to prevail over her enemies, both known and hidden? Will she rescue her sons and remove the curses cast on them? Will she restore her daughter to the sweet little girl she was? Will Ella find Prince Charming? Will she survive all the dangers her enemies throw at her and return spring to the land at last?

Or is she too late?

You will find the answers to these questions within the pages of Wings, a Cinderella, P. I. Novel.

Review:

I simply love this series. Wings was such an exciting read. As I've said before, these aren't your daughter's fairy tales. These stories are filled with mystery and excitement around every corner. I love that so many characters make an appearance in these books. I highly recommend this one and the rest of the series!
