A NOTE FROM AUTHOR EUGENIA RILEY:
Many moons ago when my acclaimed historical romance, MISSISSIPPI MADNESS, was first published in mass-market paperback, a severe paper shortage prompted the publisher to cut 100 pages from my final manuscript in order to save on very high book production costs at the time. Although the shortened book was enthusiastically received by my fans, I always felt as if some of the heart was cut out of my story. Thus I am delighted to resurrect MISSISSIPPI MADNESS in all its lusty glory in this brand-new, unabridged, freshly edited Eugenia Riley Classics edition of my beloved antebellum romance.
I invite you to join Jasmine DuBroc and Jared Hampton on their passionate adventures in Old South Natchez, Mississippi. You’ll cheer for Jasmine, a heroine who truly grows into her own strength as a woman during the course of the story. And you’ll fall in love with Jared, my charming, sexy and irrepressible hero; to quote from ROMANTIC TIMES, “Who can resist a knight in shining armor?” The story is filled with unexpected plot twists, dramatic escapades and heroic rescues. If moonlight and magnolias, sumptuous atmosphere and midnight seductions are your thing, then succumb to MISSISSIPPI MADNESS today!
MISSISSIPPI MADNESS is a full-length historical romance of approximately 125,000 words. Author Eugenia Riley is the renowned, bestselling author of dozens of historical, contemporary and time-travel romances, including the classics A TRYST IN TIME and BUSHWHACKED BRIDE. She has written for publishers including Avon, Bantam, Warner, Harlequin and Dorchester.
Excerpt:
The moon was full . . . And from the moment Jared Hampton saw
the beautiful woman struggling for her life in the black depths of
the Mississippi River, he knew he was in love.
Jared had come out on the deck of the River Witch to get a
breath of fresh air and to scan the waters ahead, when he was
flabbergasted to spot the blond, practically nude female in the
churning waters beyond him. She was flailing about and screaming out
for help. He was stunned, mesmerized, and as the steamboat chugged
closer to her, he found he could not take his eyes off the
captivating mermaid who had just so dramatically appeared in his life
. . .
In the treacherous waters beyond, Jasmine Dubroc Boudreau was indeed
fighting for her life. She had fully expected to drown before she saw
the gray hulk of the side-wheeler steam into view. Then she had
spotted the tall gentleman standing on deck, staring down at her in
amazement. Heedless of the fact that she wore only a shockingly thin,
torn nightgown, she found her instincts for survival—and even more
importantly, her thirst for revenge—taking over.
“Help me!” she screamed out to the gentleman as the steamboat
drew nearer. “For God’s sake, help me!”
On deck of the riverboat, Jared Hampton removed his Panama hat and
looked down at the struggling beauty in astonishment. “Love,
whatever are you doing down there in the river?” he called out in a
cultured southern drawl.
“Drowning!” came her terse reply.
“However did you land in such a predicament?” he demanded.
“That’s a long story!” she snapped.
This was motivation enough for Jared Hampton. Pausing only to remove
his boots and to shout to the pilot to reverse engines, Jared climbed
the railing, then plunged headlong into the turbulent waters of the
Mississippi to rescue his foundering goddess, calling out to her in
laughter-filled voice, “This I’ve got to hear!”
