Millionomoics: My Journey to Financial Freedom by Shiv Verma Review

Title: Millionomics: My Journey to Financial Freedom
Author: Shiv Verma
Genre: Advice/Finance
Price: $2.99 or FREE for Prime Members
Rating: 4 out 5 stars

Book Synopsis:

It is the true story of a common man’s journey to becoming a millionaire after his arrival in the United States—the story of a man who started from ground up to gain financial freedom in a new land. This book is short and practical volume about living well and saving smartly.

ON SPECIAL INTRODUCTORY SALE PRICE!

Shiv Verma illustrates how to create a successful financial model based on simple and educated decisions. This book walks the reader through a model based loosely on the lessons Shiv’s father taught him before he passed away. Shiv explains how he modified and replicated his father’s model into something he now calls the “smart savings model” and shows how it can be recreated in a variety of environments. By maintaining the strong and adaptable system of "smart savings" and finding your own personal "commit force,” you can be on the path to achieving financial freedom sooner than you expected.

Millionomics is an easy to read book that can be finished in a single sitting. Readers of all ages, regardless of where they stand financially or what their goals are, will leave with a new perspective on how to save more money without sacrificing a high quality of life. Shiv teaches readers how to set practical goals and prepare for the unexpected events that throw life off course at times. He takes you on a year-by-year journey and uses his own life and spending as a concrete example of how he became a millionaire by simply saving. This book proves that with planning and conscious spending, wealth is not an unattainable goal!

With this book you can identify your “commit force” and start your journey today. There are no tricks or gimmicks, no magic, no shortcuts here—just an easy to follow concept and some inspiration. You will learn how to save wiser, spend more consciously, and invest smartly. Are you ready for a change?

Review:

Finances are a passion of mine. I have written about them regularly over the past 7 years of my career as a freelance writer. When I was given the opportunity to review Millionomics by Shiv Verma, I was immediately interested in the subject matter. Verma provides a true account of how he gained a net worth of $1 million in just 14 years.

I've read many financial books over the years and many rehash the same material over and over again. I was pleased to see that this book had something new to offer. Not only did I learn about whole life insurance, which is something I plan to invest in soon, but it was refreshing to see the viewpoint of someone raised in India. As an American, I was raised with ideas that are somewhat different from those of Verma. Americans focus more on bigger and better, rather than what we actually need. This leads many of us to live our lives in debt, many times it's incredibly staggering debt that weighs us down both financially and emotionally.

Reading this journey opened my eyes to new ways of thinking. While I may not be able to follow through with every bit of advice, something that stuck with me was the author's statement about how there's never a perfect time to start saving money and that I just need to go ahead and do it. It's true. There will always be bills and no time will be just the right moment to make a change.

I highly recommend Millionomics to anyone who wants to stop living in debt and reach for that goal of being a millionaire.

Bites: Ten Tales of Vampires by Rayne Hall Review

Title: Bites: Ten Tales of Vampires
Genre: Horror
Pages: 148
Price: $0.99
Rating: 4 out 5 stars

Book Synopsis:

Do you like the traditional, blood-sucking, dangerous type of vampire? Then this story collection is for you.

Ten authors have created creepy, chilling, funny, thought-provoking and scary stories about dark suckers.

Are vampires to be pitied for their vulnerabilities, or envied for their powers? How do we know who is a vampire? How do we know what vampires want from us? What if they are expressions of our own forbidden desires?

What if the victims give their blood willingly, in return for a boon? What if they drain from their victims not blood, but something more precious - their courage, their faith, their ability to love?

Is what they offer a fair exchange for what they take? Do you yearn for thrills, for immortality, for everlasting youth? Would you be willing to pay for this with your blood, your life, your soul?

Ten authors probe these questions in their tales. Each story in this book explores a different concept of vampires, a different question, a different danger. To reflect the authors' individual voices, you will find both American and British words and spellings in this book.

Review:

I wasn't a vampire fan until I stumbled across A Girl's Guide to Vampires by Katie MacAlister. Soon, I was reading more and more vampire fiction and couldn't get enough. Something that always intrigued me was that many stories had different elements. Some vampires could venture out in the daylight (Twilight), while others were cruel, vicious creatures. I must say that I enjoyed Bites, edited by Rayne Hall, because it was a nice mixture of alluring vampires versus pure evil. I also enjoyed the mix between stories set in modern day and those set long ago.

As with any collection, I had my favorites. Winter Flower by Jonathan Broughton was a beautifully constructed story, set long ago, in which a young woman falls for a servant, but finds much more than she expected. My next favorite was Exile by April Grey. The story didn't focus on young victims, but a middle-aged woman who is offered immortality, an immortality that will allow her to forever focus on her passion of dancing.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys vampires and paranormal romance. With ten stories to choose from, you're bound to find at least one story that captures your attention and feeds your love of vampires.

A Scholar's Journey: The Divine Tempest Excerpt

A Scholar's Journey The Divine TempestThe city was built near the side of a white mountain almost level with the clouds at its peak. A cave-like tunnel wound through the mountain to the top and ended in a ledge that protruded tenaciously into the brutal winds.
A woman was standing on the ledge, dressed from head to toe in the finest silvery silk. Her pristine clothes shone like platinum in any kind of light. Even flecks of dirt from the stone floor of the cave could not stain the fine fabric.
She was blessed with long platinum hair that complemented her clothes elegantly, and they fluttered together, streaming in the damp wind. Her face was angular and strikingly beautiful, with delicate cheekbones and a chiseled nose, flawed only by the sharp lines of anguish that clouded her countenance.
She stared out into the distance as if watching a sight beyond reality, and it caused her face to tighten even further in pain. The wind sent a warning with howling urgency, and she wiped her hair from her eyes to clear her vision.
Something was amiss. There was a wrongness in the air. The sixth sense in her mind knew what it was long before it was fully evident. A familiar thought wracked her heart with sharp pangs of unease, an ominous forbearance that preceded a vision.
Before her, the clouds roiled and beat together in a heated battle that was moving inexorably closer. The great bellies of the clouds were ever fuller and darker, precursors of the rain to come. They huddled together and then broke apart. They collided and clashed with one another to set forth their wet gift upon the land.
From within the clouds, shapes began to appear, augurs of the future, given to the woman as preludes to events to come. The clouds moved and shifted, and an image appeared from the chaotic masses. It was a denser column, shaped roughly into the form of an oval. At first it was no more than a stark sliver amongst its gray brethren, but as the storm moved closer it was beginning to become more prominent and showed itself fully as the storm formation covered the city.
The sliver widened and became taller and larger than the cloud in which it had originated. It was pushing every competitor out of the way with a force that was immeasurable. From within that mass something new was stirred, moving and shifting outward, and as the oval widened, new shapes were birthed from the curves of cloud.
A doorway formed, and from within it emerged unspeakable horrors. Grasping claws and gnawing teeth reached toward the woman on the ledge, threatening to consume both her and the city nearby. Then, surpassing the hunger of the lesser creatures within the doorway, another more powerful presence began to emerge.
At first it was just a feeling in the pit of the woman's chest, but slowly it became something far more terrifying. Her breath quickened even more, and she forced herself to remain standing under the pressure of its aura.
Huge, smoldering, sapphire-hued eyes appeared and resolved within the doorway of what must be their owner's cage. Great indigo claws grabbed the threshold and pried it even wider. Slowly it thrust its presence from within its prison into the open. As it did, its eyes glowed brighter and sparked with luminescent lightning, and a dangerous maw opened below them. Long, dagger-like teeth glinted harshly in the pale light of the storm, malicious things that threatened to tear at the fiber of her soul.
Slowly that great fanged mouth opened wider and wider till it was larger than the city and the mountain. Ready to descend upon the land, it encompassed the sky as far as the eye could see. Long, jagged lines of otherworldly cobalt lightning arced through its teeth and eyes and then struck the ground.
The woman could feel that there was an undeniable simplicity to its wants and needs. It wanted only to take and consume, break and destroy everything.
Then, as the great evil was about to fall on the land and take its very essence, the clouds broke into rain, and the vision dispersed.
The author is giving away a Kindle, a $20 Amazon GC, and an ebook. Fill out the form below a Rafflecopter giveaway

Blood Match by Jessica Miles Review

Title: Blood Match
Author: Jessica Miles
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Price: $2.99 or FREE for Prime Members
Rating: 4 out 5 stars

She's landed the job of her dreams, so why not let her hair down and enjoy a little R&R? Little did Serena know that the one night she decides to let it all hang loose, she'll meet someone important to her future. As her life takes such an abrupt turn, she can't help but enjoy every bit of this new exciting life, but how much excitement can one girl take?

Blood Match by Jessica Miles was a quick read and hard to put down. I loved that the author makes the lead character seem real in her thoughts about what she's experiencing. With that said, I did feel there was a bit of excessive exclamation mark usage. However, I may have only noticed this detail because I'm also a writer and have been taught to use exclamation points sparingly. With that said, I would still recommend this book to those that love paranormal romance, vampires, and deliciously sinful sex scenes.

Kindle Smartphone Rumors: Could a Phablet Be Coming Soon?

by Cindy Gunnin

Reports across the web that Amazon is working on a smartphone based on a custom Android platform and destined to compete head-to-head against the iPhone gathered strength on April Fool's Day when former Microsoft, now Amazon, executive Charlie Kindel (Yes, that's really his name!) blogged about his new job at Amazon.

The mock press release claimed Kindel was in charge of developing a new home server for Amazon that would be called the Kindle Charlie. Kindel prefaced his joke post with the phrase " Part of the following is true," leading to much speculation that he is the head of development for the smartphone/tablet combo.

Reports in March said the new product will be Amazon's very own phonelet, with a 4.7-inch screen, making it smaller than most tablets and bigger than most phones. Supply chain insiders say the screen size is not finalized and the phone won't release until 2014.

The primary rumor is that Amazon has been working with Foxconn International Holdings in its smartphone development. Foxconn makes the iPhone for Apple.

Other tech sites claim that the new phonelet will be released in the second quarter of 2013, so releasing between now and July 1. Business Insider claimed in March that delays in screen production will keep the phone from mass production until June.

The rumors about an Amazon smartphone have been circulating since the summer of 2012 when Bloomberg reported that people in the know said Amazon was working on a smartphone.

The story almost died after the release of Amazon's new slate of tablets including the Kindle Fire HD. In fact, when Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos was asked about an Amazon Kindle phone, his cryptic answer was to "stay tuned."

However, detailed reports speculating on everything from the release date to the idea that the phone might include Bezos' patented idea for airbags to protect the phone when it is dropped. Those reports indicate the initial price of the phone will be about $200 and that Amazon has pre-order five million phones.

Further speculation about the new Amazon smartphone is that it will be relatively inexpensive. Industry analysts expect Amazon to use the same marketing strategy for the phone as it has for its tablets. That is, keep the cost of the product as low as possible, just covering costs, and make its money through apps and other products sold for the devices.

The various reports indicate that initially Amazon had considered a more traditionally sized smartphone, but observed the increasing popularity of the larger screened phonelets and opted for the 4.7-inch screen. Their reasoning is probably sound. At least two-thirds of smartphone buyers said that the size of the display was very important in their purchasing decisions.

Whether Amazon is actually close to ready to launch a smartphone is unclear, but with this many rumors circulating, it seems likely that they are at least working on it.

Sequel Halo of the Nephilim out May 2013

Excerpt

The next day, Kim packed up her own drawing of her mother’s carved wall, the scroll, and the piece of metal. Her excitement put her in a giddy mood. Once she was parked and in front of Loyola’s entrance, Sandra met her in the foyer and escorted her back to the Arts and Science College. Sandra took Kim to their lounge and introduced her to six other professors who were equally interested in seeing her finds. All of them specialized in fields that had to do with the ancient world. Kim began with unveiling her own copy of the symbols she drew from her mother’s basement.

“I appreciate all of your attention. Can anyone tell me what this is, and even possibly what it means? Each symbol was copied down in the order it was etched into the wall,” Kim said.

One professor immediately took the paper and made a copy.

This made Kim uncomfortable. He asked, “Where did you find this?”

“Again, none of that matters,” Kim defensively repeated. Her daughter’s omen chimed throughout her brain. The man intuitively put up her defenses.

“Doctor Nrogbi’s English is somewhat limited. He’s not trying to be pushy or rude,” Sandra explained.

“This is Angelic script, also known as Adonite language, alphabet of the Ark, or even Enochian. It’s the first written language of this world. Angels used it to communicate with God. The first humans also used it before the Fall,” Doctor Nrogbi lectured.

“Before what fall?” Kim asked, very confused. How could Maria have known all of this?

“Before Adam and Eve sinned. Before they were kicked out of Eden. It pre-dates Hebrew, Sanskrit, Aramaic, and other ancient languages. It’s very sophisticated and difficult to translate. These symbols look like a key, invocation, or lyric.”

Marked (Howl Book 5) by Jody Morse and Jayme Morse Review

Title: Marked (Howl Book 5)
Author: Jody Morse and Jayme Morse
Genre: Young Adult/Paranormal Romance
Pages: 235
Price: $2.99
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Samara has secrets she's keeping from her mate and she's about to add more to her list. Things become even more difficult when a close friend is killed in order to get to her.

I cannot say enough about this series. While Twilight will always be my favorite series, this is a close second. Jody and Jayme Morse continue to create hit after hit in this series. And, just like all the rest, Marked has a cliffhanger ending. However, this one leaves readers with a lot more questions. I can't wait to read the next book! If you haven't read the series, check out my reviews of the other books.

Constance Phillips lives in Ohio with her husband, two ready-to-leave-the-nest children, and four canine kids. Her perfect fantasy vacation would involve hunting Dracula across Europe with her daughter, who also digs that kind of stuff. When she's not writing about fairies, shifters, vamps, and guardian angels, she's working side-by-side with her husband in their hardwood flooring business.
Constance is actively involved in her local Romance Writers of America chapter (MVRWA) and the Southeast Michigan chapter of the United States Pony Club. When not writing or enjoying the outdoors, she loves reality television or can be found at a Rick Springfield concert (just look for the pink Converse high tops).

Don't Call Me Cougar by Luci Cosway Review

Title: Don't Call Me Cougar
Author: Luci Cosway
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Pages: 51
Price: $3.99
Rating: 5 out 5 stars

Don't Call Me Cougar by Luci Cosway is a refreshingly new take on the paranormal romance genre. While we've all read dozens of werewolf romances, when's the last time you read about werecats? In Luci's novel, a female panther finds herself trying to maintain control of a alpha-less pack, long enough for her 14 year old brother to come of age. When a sexy outsider enters her territory, she feels aroused, but bound and determined to send him packing. She'll be damned if someone is going to come in and claim her pack, let alone claim her as his mate.

If you're looking for something different, Don't Call Me Cougar is a must. It's a quick read with a great plot and just enough hot and steamy sex scenes to keep you begging for more.

The Seventh Circle - Complete 2nd Edition by Todd Cheney

Title: The Seventh Circle - Complete 2nd Edition
Author: Todd Cheney
Genre: Fantasy
Pages: 1380
Price: $7.99
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Beginning with an intense sacrifice, which leads to the summoning of a demon, The Seventh Circle by Todd Cheney is a vividly written fantasy that has the depth that only true fantasy authors can achieve. You'll find yourself drawn into the pages and feel your emotions tied to the telling of the story. This is one book that will make your heart race.

I have to admit I was a bit intimidated at taking on such an epic fantasy. At almost 1400 words, The Seventh Circle by Todd Cheney is quite a massive novel, but once I started reading the book didn't seem long enough. The story flowed so smoothly that it was hard to put down, even when my eyes were shot from reading so long. If you're looking for the next epic fantasy to fill your free time, this is a great choice.

Amazon's Purchase of Goodreads: Opinions From Those in the Book Industry

by Cindy Gunnin

Authors, book lovers and business people are all complaining about Amazon's purchase of Goodreads. In fact, the only people who don't seem opposed to it are Amazon and the former owners of Goodreads.

Indie author Jennifer Malone Wright, author of Kinlde best seller The Vampire Hunter's Daughter and the follow up series Arcadia Falls, half joking, said "Pretty soon Amazon will own our souls."

But immediately turning serious Wright said, " I don't think this is a good thing at all. Amazon is the giant in the book world and seems to slowly be eliminating all of our other options for selling books."

Her words convey the same depth of concern as those from Scott Turow, president of the Authors Guild. He said, " Amazon’s acquisition of Goodreads is a textbook example of how modern Internet monopolies can be built." His concern, and Wright's, is that by purchasing the independent reader site, Amazon now controls more of the flow of information about books.

For indie authors like Wright, Goodreads was an alternative to the cumbersome and restrictive review requirements that Amazon has adopted in recent months. Last year, thousands of reader reviews were removed from Amazon products because the writer of the review happened to be a published author as well. With no major publisher backing them, indie authors need the buzz of positive reviews to help generate sales on their books.

Amazon has claimed that its removal of reviews was prompted by some bad eggs, who paid for positive reviews, or gamed the system by having their friends, real and sometimes imaginary, write glowing reviews of their work. Unfortunately, authors argue, many readers are also writers and just because another person writes a book doesn't mean they are necessarily a competitor.

Others have expressed concern that Amazon will use/misuse the information available on Goodreads to further market books to authors. They have, in effect, given the giant bookseller a list of all their preferences, making marketing for Amazon a snap.

In the business world, many are concerned about the monopolistic control Amazon seems to be developing of books. The San Jose Mercury News cited worries from small book store owners that they are going to be even less able to compete with Amazon after the purchase of Goodreads.

"It's scary," said Ann Seaton, the manager of the independent bookseller Hicklebees, in the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose told the Mercury News. "The stranglehold that any one player gets on a community is ultimately bad for everybody."

The Necromancer by Pamela M. Richter

THE NECROMANCER -  She picked the worst guy to have an affair with! -  Evil stalks in Hawaii

Michelle was brutally attacked in her locked hotel room in Las Vegas. The police didn't believe her and thought she must have lured a man up to her hotel room for a little sexual adventure, which went dangerously out of control.

Michelle sustained visible scars from the terrifying and almost lethal attack, but pure fear motivated the move from her home in California to Hawaii. She's scared her attacker will come back. She's sure the next time he'll kill her. Now she has a successful career and she figures abstinence is an acceptable, if lonely, way to live.

Michelle decides that an affair with a wickedly handsome man who moves into her building might cure her of the humiliating, embarrassing, and uncontrollable anxiety attacks which plague her whenever she finds herself alone with a man.

How could she know that she made the worst possible choice?

Omar Satinov, the man Michelle has chosen, is a secret, whispered legend across several continents. His lure is a mystical religion based upon Witchcraft; his hook, the addictive herbal products he sells his followers. But does he really have supernatural powers, as many of his disciples believe?

Ordained (The Immortal Archives) by Devon Ashley

Normally, the school creates the hunters - not the monsters.

Abby Sorrensten likes to play rough. Ripping the horns off the foreheads of demons, manipulating lightning and setting things on fire with the flick of your wrist can give you a serious rush. So she probably wasn't the best choice for the Order's experimental training program. Thirteen years of isolation, lack of affection and a bruised and broken body from horrendous training sessions creates more than just an exceptional fighter, it creates an evil within - an evil responsible for several deaths the night she left.

Two hundred years later Abby resurfaces as the very thing the Order trained her to kill: a vampire. A mythical demon has set his sights on the school and only the ordained hunter has the powers to face it. Unbeknownst to the Order, Abby's their precious ordained one and their only chance for survival. As much as she would love to leave them hanging, she's not willing to risk the life of Emily, a fellow friend and hunter also fed up with the organization. But for Abby, locking herself away in a fortress with angry descendents of those she killed causes suspicions and tensions to run high. Abby must learn the demon's weaknesses for battle before the Order learns hers.

ORDAINED is the first novel in the urban fantasy series The Immortal Archives.

Featured Author: Anika Malone Writer of The Beautiful Ones

Anika Malone is a talented author who saw publishing success with her first novel, "10 Minutes Past Too Late". Currently working on her latest novel, The Beautiful Ones, Malone started a Kickstarter page in hopes of getting the funds she needs to finish the work. As an indie author, I can attest to the need for funds to put every ounce of energy possible into writing a novel from start to finish and all the work that goes into getting the book ready for publication. I also believe in helping indie authors make their dreams come true. I have faith that this author has what it takes to create another winning novel and you can help her make it possible.

You may be asking who Anika Malone is and that's why I chose to feature her on the blog. Anika Malone, a native of Brooklyn, New York, has lived in Texas and South Carolina. She currently resides in North Carolina, where she is at work on her second novel. Her first novel has been called "an impressive first novel" by Mary Monroe and "a fresh new voice in contemporary fiction" by Tracy Price-Thompson.

Check out this video to learn more about her upcoming novel and how you can help:

Roots (Witchbound #1) by Kelbian Noel Book Trailer

Roots (Witchbound #1) by Kelbian Noel
$0.99 Throughout April

I don't consider myself a witch, that's my parents' thing. I've never really believed in magic either. Sure, I tried it a few times. Fell for the whole "magic happens" thing. But it didn't happen to me. No amount of rhyming stopped my parents from moving me halfway across the country. Not one spell stopped me from being labeled the town freak.

And worst of all, no matter how many times I begged the Universe to bring my twin back, I was ignored. Until now.

He's back all right. And in a magical bind of his own. Not the magic-won't-work-for-me kind either. In fact, it's working a little too well. Too dark. Too deep.

It turns out our entire family's magical roots run just as deep and my brother didn't end up where he is by accident. So I'm going to help him. But magic isn't really on my side. Nope. Once I finally get the craft under control, I'm expected to abandon the one person in the world who's closest to me, just to save myself.

Ladies of 1950s Science Fiction by Eric Shamblen

Ladies of 1950s Science Fiction by Eric Shamblen
$1.99

Female science fiction writers have existed since Mary Shelley invented the genre with Frankenstein, but their work has not always been easy to find. We've found nine excellent stories from the 1950s, many of which have never been reprinted since their first publication, and edited them especially for the Kindle and other e-readers.

Stories include lost classics from legends of the genre such as Judith Merril, Miriam Allen deFord and Carol Emshwiller, as well as a few authors that we'll guarantee you've never read before.

Contents of this volume:

Mr. Elsie Smith by Dana Lyon
Whether you see this story as science fiction or fantasy depends on whether you view Mr. Elsie Smith as a nascent artificial intelligence or simply as a magical typewriter.

Timequake by Miriam Allen deFord
In this story, everyone on Earth is set back in time twelve hours, and a jealous husband has to decide whether or not to commit murder... again.

The Runaway by Louise Lee Outlaw
Psychiatrists make a good living these days helping people work through the issues of their childhood. Here, a woman and her husband find a more direct (and catastrophic) route.

The Very Secret Agent by Mari Wolf
A tale of interplanetary war, the outcome of which depends on a woman in love with a married man. Along the way, a telepathic alien discovers that some thoughts just aren't worth reading.

The Hero by Elaine Wilber
The gruff, worldly marine in an outpost far from home. The pure, innocent local beauty. A trite combination, perhaps, but in this story, it is also one with an unexpected outcome.

Life, Incorporated by Alice Eleanor Jones
Suppose, on some idyllic alien world, everyone has a lifespan of exactly 100 years. Now suppose a scoundrel of an Earthman finds a way to game the system...

For Sale, Reasonable by Elizabeth Mann Borgese
The battle between man and machine for gainful employment is as old as the folk tale of John Henry versus the steam hammer. Here, the fight is projected into a future where the machines have carried the day- or have they?

Baby by Carol Emshwiller
Here's a vastly different vision of the relationship between human and machine. It's a post-apocalyptic future where the only survivors are the robots and the one they call Baby.

A Woman of the World by Judith Merril
In a different post-apocalyptic world, what kind of a woman will be needed to rebuild society? And what kind of man will she have as her partner?

My origins shall remain unknown, my true self hidden. I have been called by many names, but in this life I am known as the Witch Hunter. I have been asleep these past 150 years, until I was awoken by a haunting call.

Zachary Degaud was twenty three when he died. The problem was, he didn't stay that way.

Present day, he's just another vampire with another unremarkable story. That is, until he manages to provoke a two thousand year old witch named Katrin, who wants to make him pay in the most horrible way imagined.

Along with his brother Sam, newly made vampire Liz and their only witch ally, Gabby, his only chance for survival is to summon the ancient and unpredictable vampire known as the Witch Hunter.
