I left shift work behind in December 2004 and have been self-employed since 2006. My career is really hard to pinpoint. In fact, you could say I have my finger in several different pies. I work as a freelance writer, blogger, book promoter, and even an author. In other words, I like to have options when it comes to my workday and am always looking for more ways to make money.

Real estate has been something I've been interested in for many years. The ability to purchase a property and make money years and years after the property is paid for is appealing. In fact, my current goal is to purchase a home to live in that can be paid off quickly and then rented out. I want to continue this process until I have at least 4 or 5 rental properties and can feel comfortable when I retire.

After reading 20 SUMthing Landlord by Joe Donlon, I realized that I don't have to wait until a property is paid off. There are different ways to make money in real estate. Best of all, I wouldn't have to invest any money upfront. I'll admit, it sounds too good to be true, but this book describes how to do it. Joe walks you through the entire process with his laugh out loud commentary.

I highly recommend 20 SUMthing Landlord to anyone that wants different options than working the dreaded 9 to 5 job. However, do be warned that there is a lot of cursing in this book. If you're easily offended, grow a pair and read this book! Seriously, it's great information.
