Interview:
I first developed the idea of trying to write a series in 2010. I published my first cozy mystery in September of 2013. As of April 1, 2014 I will have published 9 books in all.
What genres do you write?
What genres do you write?
Mystery and Romance.
Who do you imagine you're telling a story to as you write?
Who do you imagine you're telling a story to as you write?
Honestly I don’t imagine that I’m telling a story. It’s more like I’m watching a movie in my head as the characters act out their parts. I rarely know where the story is going until the characters show me the way. Most of the time I’m amazed at how things turn out.
What's your latest book about?
What's your latest book about?
Beach Blanket Barbie, Book 6 in the Zoe Donovan Series, will be released on April 1. The character of Barbie was first introduced in The Trouble with Turkeys as best friend Levi Denton’s girlfriend. In Beach Blanket Barbie, Barbie comes back to town with a secret that ends up getting her killed. Levi feels responsible for her death so Zoe and the gang decide to help Sheriff Salinger track down the killer. The more they dig the more confusing things become.
Which authors inspire you?
Which authors inspire you?
There are a lot of wonderful authors who I look up to and admire. Right now I’m reading Debbie Macomber. I’ve loved her stories for years and would have to say that she is one of my favorites.
What's your favorite book?
What's your favorite book?
Picking a favorite book is like picking a favorite child. I honestly can’t choose just one. I have a bookshelf full of old friends that I’ve read so many times the pages are falling apart. I asked myself if I had to pick one which would it be and the answer is, it depends. I have favorites to read in the summer and favorites to read during the holidays. I have favorites if the weather is stormy and favorites if I’m lounging at the beach. I have a favorite thriller, favorite romance, and favorite mystery.
Why did you choose independent publishing?
Why did you choose independent publishing?
I feel like I should give an eloquent and calculated answer to this question but the truth of the matter is that independent publishing is faster and I am an impatient person. As a reader I’ve never liked having to wait an entire year for each new book in a series. As an author who publishes independently I can publish new books in a series as fast as I can write them (which is pretty fast.)
What one piece of advice would you offer other indie authors?
