Lexie Winters is on a mission—to lose her good girl image and tempt resident bad boy, Ash Bodry, into her bed. Tired of being treated like his kid sister, it’s past time for her to play dirty. She has her work cut out for her though when it comes to the sinfully sexy yet incredibly frustrating man.

As far as Ash is concerned, Lexie is strictly off limits. Not only are they friends, her dad just happens to be the sheriff, and years ago the man steered Ash away from a life of crime. No way is he repaying that favor by giving into his wicked fantasies of Lexie. But when the little vixen strolls into his tattoo parlor and requests a very naughty piercing, Ash’s honorable intentions are tested to their limits.

Now that Lexie’s hammered the first chink in Ash’s defenses, and he’s sweating bullets, there’s no chance in hell she’s settling for his hands off policy. Even if it means some flirty strip tease action and late night skinny dipping to convince him that this newfound naughty girl will do whatever it takes to get her man.

Break out the fireworks and get ready to kick off your summer with this HOT new collection of stories. Naughty Girls Do is part of the Red Hot and BOOM multi-author series (stands alone for reading enjoyment)

Excerpt:

A massive case of jittery nerves twisting her stomach into a knot, Lexie Winters hesitated outside the entrance to Shores Ink. Tearing her focus from the intricate black and white tribal graphic stenciled on the door, she gave her best friend and co-conspirator, Grace Jennings, a panicked look. “Why can’t I just get a tattoo?” Granted, she’d have to get it somewhere discreet. She didn’t want to completely scandalize her coworkers at the library. Of course, not much chance of that not happening if it ever leaked out what she was intending to get done at Ash Bodry’s tattoo parlor.
Grace indulged in a long-suffering sigh. “We’ve already discussed this. A tattoo won’t get Ash’s attention.”
“What if I get it on my butt? Or boob?”
Puh-lease.” Grace rolled her eyes. “Can you imagine the amount of asses and boobs Ash likely sees on a daily basis? Not gonna impress him.”
Grimacing, Lexie readjusted her tortoise frame lenses before inspecting her cleavage. “I’ve never gotten any complaints about the girls before.”
“Of course you haven’t. They’re the freaking Eighth Wonder of the World.” Grace gestured to the front of Lexie’s pink halter-top. “I wasn’t referring so much to your attributes as the tattoo in general. If you’re going to prove to Ash that you’re not a goody two shoes, you’re going to have to pull out all the stops. No relying on the miracle twins there to get the job done, Toots.”
Lexie swallowed hard. “I don’t know—”
“Yes, you do. Now pull up your big girl panties and get your ass in there, Wussarella.”
With that encouraging endearment ringing in her ears, Lexie sucked in a deep breath and ducked through the doorway. Heavy metal music drifted from the central sound system, its bass-loaded beat vibrating the floor and amping the nervous tension prickling beneath her skin. It wasn’t the first time she’d stepped inside Ash’s shop. God knows she’d invented plenty of excuses for dropping by over the years. Still, the pretense of bringing him lunch was far less stress inducing than her present plan.
Stalling, she deliberately dragged her feet, feigning a renewed interest in the photos grouped on the nearest wall. The images depicted various shots of Ash’s one of a kind custom ink designs. She leaned in for a closer scrutiny of her favorite out of the bunch—a gorgeously detailed mermaid. Each scale appeared so vividly real, she swore the mythical creature would leap to life with the tiniest flick of its jewel-toned tail. Lexie chewed her bottom lip. Maybe...
A loud rap rattled the front door, and Lexie instinctively jumped. Heart knocking in triple time, she tossed a guilty look toward the entrance. Sure enough, Grace was giving her the stink eye. Gusting a resigned exhalation, Lexie abandoned her post in front of the tattoo gallery and approached the unmanned appointment desk. Dalton—Ash’s assistant—was nowhere to be seen. Thank God for small favors. Because the less witnesses she had for this, the better.
She rounded the corner of the studio, and struggled to kill her lusty sigh as she took in her first Ash sighting of the day. A bounty of muscles flexing in his colorfully inked shoulders and upper arms, he hefted from his seat and leaned over the sketch pad propped open on his work station, his strong, masculine features set in fierce concentration. Dark eyebrows slashing low toward the bridge of his nose, he switched out his blue pen for a red one and continued free handing his creation on the paper. Taking advantage of his complete absorption with his task, Lexie drank up every ounce of his gorgeous perfection.
No, perfection wasn’t the right word when describing Ash Bodry. He was no pretty boy, by any means. His nose bore a slightly off kilter slant thanks to participating in one too many brawls back in the day, and the faint remnant of a scar still christened the spot above his biceps where he’d been stabbed in a knife fight. For some women, those lingering battle wounds of his past might have been a turn off. Then of course there were the braver, wilder girls who were drawn to Ash’s not-entirely-redeemed bad boy side. In Lexie’s case, her feelings for him ran more than skin deep.
She was one hundred percent hopelessly in love with Ash. Had been for nearly twelve years, ever since the fateful day her dad busted Ash in the act of hotwiring the mayor’s pristine ’68 Corvette Stingray. Rather than pushing to have Ash thrown in juvie, her dad had volunteered to personally oversee Ash’s probation. As the sheriff of a small lakeside community that quadrupled in residency and potential crime rate during peak summer season, taking on the role of Ash’s sponsor had been no small commitment on her dad’s part. But he’d set Ash on the—mostly—straight and narrow, and in the process inadvertently sealed Lexie’s lovelorn plight by arranging for Ash to help her that entire summer at her grandpa’s campground. Despite Ash having two years on her in age—and an infinitely higher amount of years on her when it came to street smarts—they’d formed a close bond that’d remained unshakable throughout the years.
Sending up a silent prayer that she wasn’t about to destroy that record, she steeled her spine and took a tentative step forward.

Beach Bags and Burglaries (A Haley Randolph Mystery) by Dorothy Howell Excerpt

Beach Bags and Burglaries (A Haley Randolph Mystery) by Dorothy Howell
$9.99

Part-time sleuth and full-time fashionista Haley Randolph just won an all-expenses-paid vacay at the Rowan Resort, a ridiculously exclusive island getaway that caters to the whims of millionaires, royalty, and Hollywood A-listers. With her three BFF's--Marcie, Bella, and Sandy--along for the ride, the only thing she's missing is the Sea Vixen, the season's hottest beach bag. . .

The island has everything Haley imagined: pristine beaches, posh accommodations, and possibly Brad Pitt. But trouble soon looms on the horizon when Jaslyn Gordon, a maid at the island resort, goes missing. And while practically looting the resort for a Sea Vixen beach bag, Haley of course finds the maid--on the beach. . .and clearly dead.

Everyone at the resort says Jaslyn's death was just an accident, but Haley thinks there's a lot going unsaid. . .especially when she spots hunky FBI agent Luke Warner. He claims to be on the island only for a wedding but Haley's not buying it.

Haley's faced down clever criminals before and always come out on top, but this malicious murderer might be too crafty. And though she's dying to get her hands on a Sea Vixen, she also wants to live long enough to be seen with it!

Excerpt:

For no real reason, the Sea Vixen beach bag popped into my head.
I gazed out the window again and—oh my God, I spotted a woman carrying a Sea Vixen. That’s the second time I’d seen it on the island.
Immediately, my senses jumped to high alert.  I had to get one.  I couldn’t be the only one here who didn’t have one.  If I caught up with her, I could ask where she got it and have Avery get me one, too.  She said to let her know if we needed anything.  That included beach bags, didn’t it?
“I’m going for a walk,” I announced as I sprinted for the door.
No way was I letting that woman get away from me.
I hurried down the stairs to the lobby, then turned right figuring there had to be an exit that opened into the courtyard.  I went down a long, wide corridor, past all kinds of room, then out into the lush gardens.
The woman with the Sea Vixen had disappeared, so I took off in the direction of the bungalows, where I’d seen her headed.  I figured she wouldn’t be walking very fast and I could catch up with her easily.
I followed the meandering path, my head swiveling back and forth so as not to miss her.  I spotted a few women, but none of them carried the Sea Vixen.  I kept going.
I walked past the bungalows and—yikes!—what if she’d gone inside one of them?  An all-night stakeout flashed in my mind—which I had no problem doing, of course—but I decided I’d keep moving, just in case.
The sound of the surf grew louder as I pushed on.  Vegetation here was thicker and wilder, with lots of rocks and boulders and swaying palm trees.  Finally, the paved path gave way to a sandy beach and rolling ocean waves.  I figured that, even though I couldn’t see them, off to my left around the natural curve of the island was the helipad and the dock for the supply boats.
I stopped and looked around.  No sign of the Sea Vixen.  In fact, there was no sign of anything.  This stretch of beach was deserted.  The waves were rough which, I guess, was the reason the swimming area was located on a different side of the island.
Jeez, where was that woman?  Where could she have gone?
I jogged down the beach a short ways but didn’t see her, so I jogged the other way.  Still no sign of her.
And why the heck would she be out here in the first place?
Then I thought—ugh—maybe she was out here for a hookup with a man.  Yeah, okay, no way did I want to walk in on that.
I figured I must have missed her somehow and that I was sure to run into her—or someone else with the bag—again; I’d seen it twice already and we’d only just arrived.  Plus, I could ask Avery if she would help me locate one.
I headed back toward the path.  A flash of color caught my eye.  I spotted a swatch of yellow fabric near a big boulder that was almost hidden amid a stand of palm trees.
    I got a weird feeling.
    I walked over.
     My weird feeling got weirder.
I circled the boulder and spotted a young woman lying on the ground.
    It was Jazlyn Gordon.
    She wasn’t missing anymore.
    She was dead.

Do you remember your first love?

When Dawn moved from Southern California to rainy, rural, Washington state in 1976, love took a backseat to worries about fitting in at her new school. Over time, her friendship with the boy next door grew until she realized she had found her first love without ever looking for it. Their sweet romance turned sour in 1979, and she said good-bye to that first love, apparently forever.

Twenty seven years later, a chance run-in led Dawn to question whether or not first love can really last and if she can find her own happily ever after. If you remember your first love, what it was like growing up in a small town where everyone knew your secrets, or the simpler times growing up in the seventies, you will find much to relate to in Both Sides Now.

Both Sides Now is a standalone true story that is a companion piece to the best-selling memoir Feels Like the First Time. They can be read separately or in any order.

CIA officer Andrew Garner died in an ambush he plotted, taking three soldiers down with him. Or so everyone believed. After years of living under the radar without a country or a friend, he's tracked the real culprit back to Charleston, South Carolina.

Army Counter-Intelligence officer Laura Talbot signed off on the reports of Garner's death as well as his responsibility for the tragic ambush years ago. Hearing he might be alive, she travels to Charleston to confirm the rumor with her own eyes.

But it's more than a simple case of mistaken identity as Laura and Andrew must improvise and outmaneuver a team bent on killing them both.

Don't miss any of the RC Investigations romantic suspense novels from USA Today bestseller V.R. Marks: The Thief, The Witness, The Hostage, The Informant, and The Suit.

Excerpt:

“Mr. Garner?”
He didn’t so much as twitch. He wasn’t Garner, hadn’t been for years. Today he was pretending to be one more husband desperately seeking the right purple bookends for his wife’s library.
“Mr. Garner? Sir? I believe you dropped your wallet.” Good play, but his wallet was secure behind the zipper inside his jacket. He had to make a conscious effort to stay relaxed as he felt the screws tighten. It was a mighty short list of people from his past who could have found him so quickly. A shorter list of people who’d known him by that name.
The woman speaking was gaining on his position. Same flat Midwestern inflections as the woman with the broom. Damn it. He knew better and still he’d assumed the people tailing him would’ve been mostly men. He heard the shuffle of footsteps as customers moved, felt their gazes on him.
There was a camera over the register in the center of the store. Another would be aimed at the office door. He peered over his shoulder, as the woman cut off the angle for the stairs to an upper level showroom. Her expert move, her familiar face, brought the worst possible scenario to glaring reality. Somehow Ross Carpenter had found him. Found him and contacted Army Counter-Intelligence, before Drew’s job was done.
Damn it.
There wasn’t time to worry how Ross had managed it, seeing as Charleston was hours from any of the RCI offices. No, Drew’s concern revolved around the immediate, surviving the here and now. Had Ross called in a favor or assembled a take-down team?
“Mr. Garner?”
She was directly behind him, likely holding out a wallet they both knew didn’t belong to him. If she reached out, got a hand on him at all, it was over. Anyone in her position, with her training, would be lethal in hand to hand combat, not to mention carrying a handgun. A fight meant more unwanted attention than he could afford.
“Sir?” She tapped him on the shoulder.
Hmm? Yes?” He shifted, and turning, he caught her knee with his, gaining a scant precious inch or two. Enough room to flee.

Review:

Okay, so I'm not a fan of science fiction novels, but throw in the word erotic and I'm there. Intact by Charity Parkerson is intense, sexy, and, yet, romantic. It's got so much going for it: great plot, interesting characters, action, and S-E-X! All and all, it was a very enjoyable read.

Review:

I was a bit skeptical about whether or not this book would be a good fit for my tastes. I'm not into girl-on-girl action and while the book did have some scenes that weren't my cup of tea, I really enjoyed the storyline and the male-female encounters. Yes, I'm on of those women that gets turned on by spankings. So sue me. Seriously though, it had a good plot. The only negative I saw with this story is it felt slightly unfinished. While the main plot was finished, I felt the subplot didn't get played out completely. Either way, it was a great book.

As Mary digs deep for the inner strength to protect herself, one stumble off her magical path sends her straight into Craig’s arms. Where love burns…but so does a truth that could turn that red mating aura into a river of blood.

Covert Dreams: An International Thriller by Michael Meyer Excerpt

Covert Dreams: An International Thriller by Michael Meyer
$2.99

INTERNATIONAL SUSPENSE COLLECTION BOOK ONE - from the author who involves you in a thrilling Caribbean mystery in Book Two, DEADLY EYES

Reviewers have compared  this book to Robert Ludlum's Bourne series, and the writing style has been compared to that of Dean Koontz.

Imagine waking up remembering intimate details about a country in which you have never traveled and fluently speaking a language that you have never spoken. B.J. is living the ideal life. He has a great wife, a wonderful job. And yet he is experiencing life-like vivid dreams of Munich, a city he has never visited.

Stan Halsey is a professor in Saudi Arabia, who sends for his wife to join him. She arrives, and, in the blink of an eye, she vanishes, leaving no trace of ever being alive in either the United States or in Saudi Arabia.

COVERT DREAMS is a fast-paced international suspense thriller that moves from lively Munich to the burning sands of Saudi Arabia.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q. What inspired you to write Covert Dreams

Mike. I love a good mystery. I like to be thrilled. In addition, I have always been intrigued by the relationship the United States has had with Saudi Arabia, one of the most restrictive societies in the world, where I have been a personal witness to the fact that life here and life there is as different as being on two separate planets. What we take here for a given is nearly always a no-no there.

The area of parapsychology has always intrigued me, and where better to deal with something such as this than in a very hidden-from-the-rest-of-the-world location. The mixture of live and let live as practiced in Bavarian Munich, coupled with the fervent zeal of Arabia, enhanced by American involvement--and the plot just seemed to thicken, drawing me into it as I wrote, without my ever knowing precisely where or how it would end, but loving every minute of it.

Q. What writing technique of yours are you most proud of?

Mike. My answer can be summed up by one of the many readers who have left reviews on my Amazon website: "One last point: at the end of most of the chapters the author used an unusual and effective technique that really won my respect. I felt I was in the hands of a master. Terrific book. I would recommend it to anyone." This particular review really had an effect on me since I had worked extremely hard to perfect this specific technique.

Since COVERT DREAMS has two alternating stories that are linked in a horrifying way at the end, I wanted to keep the reader in suspense the entire journey. I especially wanted to ensure that this would be a page-turner. So what I did was to link each chapter together with endings that would titillate the reader, making one want to hurry on to see what was going to happen next.

Q. Is there anything else you would like your readers to know?

Mike. The locales I write about are real. For instance, COVERT DREAMS is set primarily in Munich and in Saudi Arabia. I have lived and studied in Germany, and I know Munich as well as I know the back of my own hands. Also, I was a college professor at the University of Petroleum and Minerals, in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. I have traveled extensively throughout Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.

Excerpt:

The Munich all around her was bustling with activity. She could hear it from all directions. Munich was a wonderful city, a fun-loving place, the live and let live ebullience of the city emanating from its every nook and cranny. She had had a lovely stay here. All of it had been so adventurous, so new, so unlike life back home in Arizona. She could vividly recall the first time she had ventured into a Munich beer garden, where the liter mugs had been so huge that she had had to lift hers with both hands, and the giggles, from him, until he too had had to use both hands.

The fumbling noises he had been making came to an abrupt halt. He began stroking her cheek again. Gus looked so happy, so young, so full of life. It was so hard to imagine that he could be so heavily involved in all this horror.

Gus smiled at her once more. His eyes were soft, so gentle, so caring, so loving.

Maybe this was some kind of huge mistake. Maybe he wasn't going to kill her after all. Maybe everything would turn out happily ever after. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.

But then suddenly she saw it clearly. It was no fairy tale. There would be no maybe. This was real, as real as the mixture of sadness and fear that now flooded her brain.

And then she died, with her eyes wide open, challenging, piercing his to the end.

Ellyn of Brodgar is an exceptional healer. But each healing kiss depletes her energy and brings her closer to death. Ellyn needs to find her own healing power before it’s too late.
Max and Ellyn are tossed into the Otherworld and have until the third sunset to appeal to the Ancestors or be lost forever. Together they find love, and as the last rays of the third sunset slip away, both are willing to sacrifice their hopes, dreams, and lives for the other. Do they have what it takes to escape the Otherworld and begin their life together?

Christmas Spirits ~ Lita Harris

Vietnam veteran Lee Russell is struggling to return to civilian life in a society that reviles him for serving his country. He no longer feels at home, except when holding Danielle in his arms.
She doesn’t belong in his time and he doesn’t belong back home. Could they belong to each other?

Letter From St. Nick ~ Nicole S. Patrick

Thad Sinclair is at a crossroads, but when he receives a letter informing him of an inheritance, the conditions force him to rethink his life’s course. Will this war-hardened US Marine finally find a place he can call home?
Scarlet Madison’s idea of a real Christmas can possibly come true this holiday. She just needs to prove that she can stand on her own two feet and save her gallery in the process. Can she realize anything is possible with unconditional support and love, no matter where it comes from?
An unexpected gift may lead Thad’s and Scarlet’s hearts to the same place.

Secret Santa ~ Julie Rowe

A nurse grieving the death of her twin brother receives an unusual gift at the staff Secret Santa party: the bullet that killed him and a message of hope and love.

Review:

What I loved most about this collection was that it truly was diverse. You have Mistletoe and Magic by Ruth A. Casie that's fantasy, then you have a delight, heartwarming story from Lita Harris, and even a time travel romance from Emma Kaye. Each of the five stories in the collection offers a different feel for the Christmas season. If you're looking for a book to get you in the holiday spirit, I highly recommend this one!

I really enjoyed this cozy mystery. I especially loved the characters. K.C. and Danny had to be my favorites. However, the storyline was also great. I especially loved the fact that I didn't see the last hoorah at the end coming. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Thoughts: One of the author's best novels!

Book Synopsis:

When world-renown reclusive mystery author Jonathan Wade decides that he’s ready to reveal his identity to the world, he decides to do something even more mysterious than what he writes in his novels – he chooses a little-known writer at an even lesser-known magazine to write his story.

Taylor Scott is chosen specifically for this assignment and has to spend two weeks with him to write her article. The only catch? She has to come alone to his farm up in Maine. The whole world knows that Wade is a recluse, but Taylor has reservations of her own about going into this kind of an agreement. For starters, no one knows what this man looks like – or anything about him, for that matter – and no one will know exactly where she is.

Mike Greene runs all-things Jonathan Wade. He knew Taylor years ago and is instrumental to her getting this interview. When she arrives up at the farm and the two of them get reacquainted, and old friendship turns to romance. As their time together moves forward, it becomes more about the two of them and less about the story that Taylor is there to write.

Lines get blurred and communications crossed and Taylor has to decide between writing the story that will launch her career or refusing to print it and having a chance at love.

Author Interview:

Q: Tell us a little about your background.

My name is Kevin Allen, Independent author. Born and raised in Jamaica, have written several titles all sold online through various retailers, which you can find on my site. I am an individual driven by some need I can’t explain to just do things outside the norm.

Q: When did you begin writing?

I started writing in 2011, finished in 2012 and rushed to publishing without fully understanding how the process worked... Needless to say I've had to do some rewrites. I spent the better part of the last year and some months learning how to write, the last six months in deep thought, and now I am ready to start writing books I want to write, along with the sequels I need to finish. Should be a lot of fun

Q: What genres do you write?

I write a few genres matter of fact. Mainly Romance and suspense, erotica, inspirational, poetry. That’s actually why I am a self-proclaimed, Metawriter, which is my twitter name. I love reading books, not a specific genre and I want to write books, not a specific genre.

Q: Who do you imagine you're telling a story to as you write?

The world. When I sit, I see millions of people sitting down with my novel in hand and I begin writing. Brings a smile to my face each time.

Q: What's your latest book about?

Two of them actually, the sequel to Mal’s complication, Visitor, a short prologue to a novel that will be introduced at the end of Visitor, and the novel itself. I am hoping to have all of them done by December.

I have also had the opportunity to write a historical fiction with author, Emma Rose Millar, called Five Guns Blazing. A historical fiction that has made some noise in the UK and hasn’t been published as yet. Emma Millar is author of Aeleon’s Harp. She invited me to help with the novel because of the slave elements within the book and I am happy I said yes.

Q: Which authors inspire you?

Langston Hughes, Poe, Shakespeare, James Patterson, Erick Jerome Dickey, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X and so many indie authors I’ve had the opportunity to meet and read their novels.

Q: What's your favorite book?

Any story with the Tales of Anansi, Of Men and Monsters. As a child growing up in Jamaica, the stories of Anansi permeated my brain because almost every person on the Island knew at least one story. When I first found Of Men and Monsters, the story gripped me right away. Just the struggle that men were put through and the way it ended actually brought me to tears reading that book.

Q: Why did you choose independent publishing?

I wasn’t willing to pay a publishing company $20,000 to publish a novel they would find a way to make roughly 80% profit on. So I took to learning about self publishing and found the KDP platform at that time, then I found Createspace while trying to figure out how to get my book in print, smashwords followed, and then Nookpress. Independent publishing gave me more control of my work and less headache. Thinking about it, if you get published by a big name, you still have to market and that is what sells books. Indie publishing was definitely for me because I love having my hand in everything pertaining to my work.

Q: What one piece of advice would you offer other indie authors?

Just write and express yourself according to what you do. I have had many experiences during my short time in the literary world, which has helped me develop as a person and as a write, most of them self induced. So just do what you intend to do and use any experience to grow from it.

Q: What’s next for author Kevin allen?

A lot of marketing and writing. When I started writing again I made a few decision. Creating a personal website people can go and interact with me. Next, will be trying to do more with my work to make it better than the first, “learning curves” were.

Q: Where can readers find you on the web?

They can visit me directly http:authorkevinallen.com

@metawriter on Twitter or facebook to connect through Social Media.

Q: Any last minute messages to send to the readers?

Thank you for any support you give by way of telling people about me, purchasing and or reviewing my books, or just following along. Don’t even be shy; ask questions if they need to be asked. And thank you for giving me this interview.

Wars, disease and a massive collapse of civilization have ravaged the human race of a hundred years in the future. Finally in the late twenty- second century, mankind slowly begins to struggle back from the edge of extinction.

When a huge “virtual life” facility is restored from a hibernation type of storage and slowly brought back online, a new hope materializes.

Fragments of humanity begin to move into the remnants of Denver and the Virtua-Gauge facilities, which offer seven days of virtual leisure for seven days work in this new and growing social structure.

Most inhabitants of this new lifestyle begin to hate the real world and work for the seven day period inside the virtual pods. It’s the variety of luxury role play inside the virtual zone that supply’s the incentive needed to work hard for seven days in the real world.

In this new social structure a man can work for seven days in a food dispersal unit and earn seven days as a twenty first century software billionaire in the virtual zone. As time goes by and more of the virtual pods are brought back online life appears to be getting better.

Rizette and her husband Oray are young technicians that settle into their still new marriage as the virtual facilities expand and thrive.

Oray has recently attained the level of a Class A Diver and enjoys his job. The Divers are skilled technicians that perform critical repairs to the complex system, from inside the virtual zone.

His title of Diver originates from often working in the secure "lower levels" of the system. These lower level areas are the dividing space between the real world and the world of the virtual zone. When the facility was built, the original designers intentionally placed this buffer zone in the system to avoid threats from non-living virtual personnel.

As Oray becomes more experienced in his elite technical position as a Diver, he is approached by his virtual assistant and forced to make a difficult decision. Oray's decision triggers events that soon pull him and his wife Rizette into a deadly quest for survival.

The stage becomes a massive and complex maze of virtual world sequences as escape or entrapment hang on precious threads of information.

System ghosts from the distant past intermingle with mysterious factions that have thrown Oray and Rizette into a cyberspace trap with little hope for survival.

But something isn't right with him. Complications escalate when the investigation leads them to Ireland and to Pierce's childhood home.

Everly's feelings for Tynan, a man she's had a long-standing hands-off attraction with, throw one more snag into her mission. Revenge is finally at her ESP fingertips, but at what cost to Pierce and his family? …and to her?

Review:

This was the first book I'd read from the series and I was easily able to get brought up to speed and get caught up in the book. I really liked Everly Gray and will definitely go back and read the earlier books in the series. I highly recommend this book to those that love a good mystery.

Primary Research; Experience Counts, by Patricia Green

I've written articles on historical research before, and for that an author relies on secondary research—unless she has a time-travel machine, that is. But today, I want to mention primary research, the research that takes place when an author actually does the act he wants to write about, or explores the object or process he's describing.

So, for example, let's say Jane is writing a murder-mystery or a spy adventure. Maybe one of the characters uses a Glock gun. Jane might have picked a Glock because she owns one (safely kept in a gun safe or stored with a trigger lock, of course), or she knows someone who has one. But if she doesn't, she can also handle the weapon at a gun store or a gun show. She feels it in her hand. Perhaps she loads it to feel the difference in weight. If she can, she might shoot it at a shooting range and feel the recoil and hear the sound of the shell casings being ejected. Maybe she learns that those shell casings are hot because she picks one up within seconds of firing the weapon. In other words, she applies her own senses to test the object and action she wants to write about. I've handled guns of various sorts and mentally recorded the details. When I wrote about a hero using a gun in Spanking Her Highness and Eddie, My Love, I used those remembered sensations and movements to make the story more realistic.

Another example might be for a horror novel set in the back country of Utah. Maybe Joe is writing a story where the protagonists are camping when something scary happens. Many of us have been camping, but how many of us have engaged our senses as Joe-the-writer ought to do? The smell of the campfire with a particular kind of wood, the sound of the crackling flames, the pattern of the smoke all are great fodder for description, and Joe is right there to record those sensations for use in his novel.

Romance isn't different. Experience counts. When we're discussing erotic romance, of course, we don't expect it to be written by virgins. There are certain aspects of sex that need to be experienced first-hand before one can write about them. There are smells, touches, sounds, and even physical movements that require a certain amount of primary research. Few of us complain about this, by the way. But sweet romances don't require the same kind of sensory experience. They can be written by virgins and more experienced persons alike. The vast majority of people know the feeling of falling in love, the sound of a welcome footstep, the touch of a first kiss, or the verbal interplay of two people just getting to know each other. These can all be recorded.

Let's look at something I've become an expert with: spanking romance. Many people who write in this sub-genre go to the trouble of experiencing the sensations and studying the tools that get used for writing these novels and novellas. So maybe a writer gets spanked or instigates a spanking. Perhaps he or she watches one in person and interviews the parties. Perhaps he goes to a spanking club and has an opportunity to examine a spanking strap, paddle or other implement. I won't go into much detail here, but I did want to find out what it all felt like for use in Discipline Down Under (my most recent release) and at least a dozen more of my books.

What about places? In my lifetime, I've been to many places, lived in many cities and experienced many cultures. Using the small details I learned about when being in these places adds realism to my stories, and this would work for any writer. Imagination is great, but you can't beat primary research. If I hadn't lived in Texas for five years, I don't think I'd have been able to give my Journey family authentic-sounding drawls in that series of books. If I hadn't been to Las Vegas and rural Nevada, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been able to describe the surrounding desert or the local people in Strong, Silent Type or Handling Stormy. If I hadn't met Native Americans who lived there, I wouldn't have been able to convey the nuances of their culture.

Primary research can be fun for a writer, and it's virtually always rewarding, even if it's only used for fleshing out character backstory that never gets used in the final manuscript. While it's delightful to go to the library or surf the internet looking for facts, figures and details, there is nothing so effective as doing primary research. Murder...Mystery...Mummies...Magic...

When Queen Nefertiti's oldest daughter, Merit-Aten, discovers that black sorcerers have murdered her grandmother and plan to mummify her in direct violation of spiritual and civil law, she vows to do whatever it takes to bring her grandmother's body home and lay her to rest under the loving rays of the Aten. But in order for her to do so--and to save her beloved grandmother's soul--she must face her deepest and deadliest fears...even though that means she must pass perilous initiations, compete against a powerful family member in a wild chariot race, witness an evil deviation of a sacred ritual, confront the Shadow People, and eventually unearth a terrible secret that shatters her illusion of death.

In the second book of The Shadow Saga, Pharaoh Akhenten’s noble and radical experiment has flourished in his new city of Akhet-Aten for three years. However, not all is as blissful as it seems. The banished priests of the dark god Amun have patiently bided their time, eager to take back their lost power.

The new battle between light and dark begins with the murder of the Queen Mother at the hands of the Amun Black Sorcerers. If the demands of the murderers are not met, they vow–in direct violation of civil and spiritual law–to mummify the Queen.

Merit-Aten, the grief-stricken daughter of the Pharaoh, is determined to bring her grandmother’s body from Thebes and lay her to rest under the loving rays of the Aten. But first she must face her own fears and undergo a series of grueling initiations that could put her life in danger.

She vows to do whatever it takes to bring her grandmother home, even if it means facing horrors far worse than she could imagine when she witnesses a distorted ritual, and unearths a terrible secret that makes her fear not only for her grandmother’s body but also for her grandmother’s soul.

Her mission takes on a new urgency. Merit-Aten must prevent her grandmother from joining the ranks of the Shadow People who now haunt her. But is she strong enough to undertake the dangerous journey into the den of the Amunites? In the end, it is up to Merit-Aten alone; if she fails, her grandmother’s soul will be condemned to walk with the Shadow People for all eternity
