When Christian Faraday wakes up in bed next to the wife of one his
friends, he decides his life of pleasure-seeking and debauchery has gone
too far. He vows to make a change and leaves London to seek a new
start. On the way to a friend’s country home, he narrowly escapes a
serious carriage accident. The driver of the other vehicle is Merissa
Cassell, a pert, no-nonsense country miss who disdains all noblemen. As
she berates him for his carelessness, Christian is intrigued. He’s never
before encountered any woman like this tart-tongued rector’s daughter.
Although
she tells herself that she has utter contempt for the arrogant
Londoner, Merissa can’t help how her body reacts to Christian’s dazzling
blue eyes, imposing physique and lazy charm. Realizing she can hardly
leave him to freeze by the side of the road, she takes him back to the
family home. Christian expects spending the night at the Cassell’s
simple farmhouse will be a tedious bore. Instead, he is touched by
Merissa’s sister Elizabeth’s warmth and hospitality. And the more he is
around Merissa, the more intensely he finds himself drawn by her
fresh-faced prettiness and stunningly independent attitude.
He
tells himself it would be completely inappropriate to pursue an innocent
like her, a denial of his vow to change his wastrel ways. But when a
family crisis forces Merissa to make a scandalous proposition, Christian
begins to realize this isn’t one of his usual dalliances, but an affair
that will turn everything upside down and change his life forever.

October is the time of year when naked cornstalks quiver and the trees take off their clothes of red and gold, when the moon is stronger and the winds moan in the trees where owls hide. It is also time for the cats' Halloween, an illustrated story in verse, and other autumnal poems for children.
Review:
An enjoyable read for anyone that loves Halloween and Fall. The author has a fantastic way with imagery. I also loved the artwork throughout the book. All and all, it's a wonderful read that all ages can enjoy this Halloween season.

Olivia Bennett is not having
a happy birthday. Instead of blowing out her twenty-nine candles, she’s
stuck in jail, caught red-handed in a graffiti incident that (perhaps)
involved one too many strawberry margaritas. Worst idea ever. The only bright side is that she ended up in the strong arms of the most gorgeous lawman she’s ever seen.
Pete
Sampson (aka Deputy Hot Stuff) faces intense pressure from the sheriff
to find out who’s behind a string of vandalisms. And after her
spray-painting spree, Olivia is suspect number one. Still, Pete can’t
stop thinking about her. Wanting her. Now he’s torn between his
duty and his overpowering desire for the vivacious waitress. But he may
have to bend the rules because true love is more important than the
letter of the law . . .
Excerpt:
Red
paint dripped from Olivia Bennett’s fingers. She tightened her grip on
the metal canister in her right hand and gave it a solid shake. Beneath
her feet, the ladder wobbled. With a startled squeak, she sent a burst
of spray paint onto her boots.
“Sorry, Liv,” Terence called from below.
“Watch
it, will you?” She pressed her palm against the cool, corrugated metal
of the factory wall and took a deep breath. Then she lifted her right
hand and pressed the valve on the spray paint canister, forming a
brilliantly red “S” on the side of the building.
“Almost done,” Kristi said.
Easy
for her to say, standing safely on the ground next to Terence. At the
top of the ladder, Olivia fought to keep her balance as the remnants of
several margaritas sloshed in her stomach. Hell of a way to end her
twenty-ninth birthday.
The
beam of Kristi’s flashlight cast Olivia’s shadow in stark silhouette
over her red-painted message. She leaned right to spray another “S” but
couldn’t reach. She’d have to come down and move the ladder to continue,
but a muffled sound captured her attention.
Mew.
The
sound was soft yet keening. A kitten? Some other baby animal? She
craned her head, peering into the darkness. “Did you guys hear that?”
“Hear what?” Terence asked, his tone wary.
“It sounded like a kitten.”
Kristi
panned the flashlight around them, plunging Olivia into darkness. She
leaned a hip against the side of the building to steady herself.
“I don’t see anything,” Kristi said.
“Okay, put that light back on me so I can get down.”
The
flashlight’s beam once more illuminated her, and Olivia scrambled
quickly to solid ground. “I heard some kind of little animal crying
while I was up there, so keep an eye out.”
“Will
do.” Terence moved the ladder over so that she could reach the next
section of wall to be painted and held it steady as she climbed back up.
Six
letters to go, and they were out of here. Terence would drive them to
his place for a post-graffiti celebration. Olivia was in no condition to
drive herself anywhere tonight. Adrenaline mixed with trepidation as
she stood at the top of the ladder yet again. The margarita buzz had
faded enough to know she was doing a crazy, stupid thing that wasn’t
going to do a damn thing to help the chickens who arrived here daily,
their only hope that death would be quick and merciful.
Based on what the undercover cameras had captured, that hope was slim.
She
ground her teeth, her fingers clenched around the spray can. It was
inhumane the way those birds were treated. Actually, it was inhumane the
way most factory-farmed animals were treated, but this was happening
right here in her little hometown of Dogwood, North Carolina.
Mew.
A
flash of white fur caught her eye, disappearing into the bushes behind
the factory. If it was a kitten, it was tiny. Was its mother nearby?
There weren’t any houses for miles around. Dammit. Now she was going to
have to go on a kitten hunt before she went home. She couldn’t leave it
out here to fend for itself.
“Hurry up, Liv,” Kristi called from below her.
Olivia
raised the canister and let loose another blast of red paint. She’d
just started “I” when the sound of an approaching vehicle reached her.
Her finger slipped, and a fresh coat of paint soaked her hands.
Kristi
and Terence must have heard it too, because the flashlight shut off,
leaving her at the top of the ladder in pitch darkness, afraid to move.
Headlights slashed through the night from Garrett Road, some two hundred
feet to her left. They slowed, then tires crunched over gravel as the
car turned into the factory parking lot.
Christ on a cracker.
“Get the hell down, Liv. We’ve got to get out of here!” Terence whispered.
A swirl of blue lights turned the night into a kaleidoscope of oh, s***. She pressed against the side of the building, stymied by paint-slickened fingers as she fumbled for the top of the ladder.
She was so not getting arrested on her birthday.
Except that she so was.
A spotlight shone from the cruiser, illuminating her in a blaze of
light so bright she could do nothing but press a hand over her eyes and
count how many ways spray-painting Halverson Foods’s chicken-processing
plant had been a bad idea.
The
ladder shifted beneath her, and she groped for the top rung. The
combination of the spinning blue lights with the piercing glare of the
spotlight was seriously disorienting.
“Hands where I can see them,” a male voice boomed.
She
shoved her hands into the air, managing to smack herself in the face
with the can of spray paint in the process. It fell to the ground with a
muffled thump. Oh, this sucked.
“Come down from the ladder, nice and slow, and keep those hands up,” the cop instructed. He sounded nice-ish. Maybe he’d go easy on her. Maybe…
Awkwardly,
she fumbled with her right foot for the next rung of the ladder. It
swayed dangerously to the side. “Terence!” she hissed, her fingernails
scoring metal as she tried to steady herself.
Silence.
She looked down, but the spotlight’s glare blinded her, preventing her
from seeing past her own paint-spattered boots. “Terence? Kristi?”
She managed to get her foot settled onto the rung and took a step down. No answer came from her friends. What the hell?
She
lifted her left foot to take the next step, and the ladder just dropped
out from beneath her. One second it was there, the next she was
plummeting through space.
“Oomph,” came a masculine grunt, as she slammed into someone’s chest and big, strong arms closed around her.
“Terence?”
Her voice was a squeak, because Terence was nowhere near this strong,
and he didn’t smell as good either. This man smelled faintly of
cinnamon, his arms solid as steel behind her thighs, and based on the
hard bulge stabbing into her kidney, he was also armed.
Oh, crap. Crap. Crap!
“Sorry,” he answered her question, setting her roughly on the ground. “Not Terence.”
“Oh.”
She staggered, still blinded by the spotlight aimed at her.
Disoriented, she turned her back and blinked at her shadow on the
factory’s gray wall. Terence and Kristi had deserted her. Bastards.
“Keep those hands where I can see them,” Invisible Cop said.
With
a sigh, she placed them on the wall before her. Her hands glistened
blood-red in the harsh light. She had been caught red-handed. Dammit. She’d always hated being a cliché.

He killed her beloved husband.
Or did he?
When former Saxon rebel Cynric of Wulfsinraed meets Ysabeau Maci, he knows he has found the woman of his dreams. But even as he begins his determined pursuit of the lovely Norman widow, his past abruptly returns to haunt him.
Two years earlier, in a raid by Saxon rebels, Ysabeau’s husband was killed by a warrior with hate-filled emerald eyes. Cynric’s moss-green gaze reminds her of that awful day. As she comes to know him, she cannot resist his gentle smile or the thrill of his touch, but the feelings he arouses are increasingly tinged with fear he may be the green-eyed warrior who destroyed her life.
Their uneasy relationship is further tested when Cynric’s best friend, Brunwulf of Blackbridge, who shares Cynric’s rebel past, flees to him for sanctuary with his betrothed, Heagyth of Jorvick. Hard on their heels is a troop of Norman warriors intent on capturing them to face the judgment of King William.
Ysabeau’s suspicions, Heagyth’s flight from Norman justice and Brunwulf’s involvement in the assassination of a powerful Norman bishop force Cynric’s hidden past into the open. The resulting conflict threatens to rip their world apart before they can build the new lives they covet.

“You
say your daughter needs new work for her hands. Has she a special
skill?”
“She
was housekeeper for seven years in the home of her lord. Arnulf says
the man was loath to give her up, for she was adept in her management
of his household. She is welcome to stay with us for as long as
needful, but still I regret I know of no holding in need of one so
competent as our Ysabeau.”
Cynric
stopped and stared at the reeve, then remembered to close his mouth.
No coincidence was this, but mayhap, the intervention of the Fates!
By the time Bernard turned back to see why he was no longer at his
side, his smile was wide. “I believe I may have the answer to part
of your daughter’s need, Sir Bernard. ‘Tis a happy chance that
Romleygh is currently in need of a housekeeper. Rather desperately
so, I fear. Aye, ‘tis truth,” he said at the hopeful look on the
reeve’s face. ”Romleygh’s housekeeper served the manor for nigh
to thirty years, but she grew too old to continue. She went to live
with her children some months past. The women brought in to replace
her have been let go.” He grinned. “The lack of someone competent
to run the household has become no small problem for us all. My lord
Vesli did task me with the search for a woman to fill the role once I
came here. Methinks he would be most unhappy did I return without
fulfilling his charge.”
“By
the saints!” Bernard pounded his back. “I find this state of
affairs most satisfactory. We will speak of this soon to Ysabeau. If
she agrees, you have your new housekeeper, though her mother and I
desire a short stay with us, first.”
“We
have survived for some months without one. Methinks we can manage
another few weeks, though you may hear the groans of my lord from
here when he learns I brought her not with me on the moment.”
Bernard’s
burst of laughter brought them nigh the cottage, where they halted.
“Look there, ‘tis Ysabeau now. See, she speaks with the
children.” His smile faded as his grandson fled toward the stables.
“Alard runs away, anger in his stance.” He sighed. “Despair
haunts my daughter’s heart. I love her, Cynric. I want to see her
whole again, and content. If you but be kind to her, ‘twill be
enough.”
Cynric
barely registered the older man’s words. The previous eve, when he
met Ysabeau in the shadows of falling night, he thought her lovely.
The woman now standing in full sunlight, watching her son stalk
across the yard, took his breath away. She was the most enchanting
female he had ever seen, despite that unhappiness etched the flawless
skin of her face. Beneath her veil, strands of reddish brown hair of
a shade similar to the fur of the forest squirrels glinted with
highlights of gold. Like one of Gemma’s pink roses in full blossom
she was, but more alluring than they. No child was she, but a mature
woman with a soft, full mouth and comfortable, motherly curves that
prompted feelings both carnal and compelling, among them a startling
need to ease her pain. From within the depths of his soul surged
awareness she might be the one for whom he had waited all his life.
So
taken aback was he—no other woman had ever made such an instant
impact upon his senses—at first he thought ‘twould be a struggle
to answer his companion, only to find the words came easily.
He
spoke without taking his eyes off of her. “I doubt not, Sir
Bernard, your request will be the easiest task given to me since my
birth.”

$2.99
Do you like it Dangerous?
Brady Finn has been a cop and a Marine, but he's never been in a situation as dangerous as this one. Waking up naked in the bed of a man he's wanted for months--with no memory of how he got there--was only the beginning.
Rope Dom Ken Tanaka knows kink isn't Brady's scene, but he still can't resist the tall, redheaded Boy Scout. When their search for a missing person requires Brady to go above and beyond the call of duty, they'll both do what needs to be done for the mission--and give in to the undeniable passion between them.
Will their explosive chemistry last once the job is over? Or will taking that chance be more dangerous than either man is willing to risk?
Warning: Explicit male/male sexy times. Voyeurism with a touch of noncon, role playing, rope. And, once again, very serious about the graphic gay sex. I'm not sure why you don't believe me... Also? An Evil League of Evil! Good kink vs scary villain kink (you've been warned), Finn Club rules and the aftereffects of The Great Rumming of 2015. I SAID RUMMING. Dirty minds.

Make You Burn by Megan Crane
$2.99
Meet the Deacons of Bourbon Street, bad boy bikers who are hell on wheels—and heaven between the sheets. Megan Crane revs up an irresistible new series co-written with Rachael Johns, Jackie Ashenden, and Maisey Yates.
Sean “Ajax” Harding’s oaths are inked into his skin. Once second-in-command of the Deacons of Bourbon Street motorcycle club, he left New Orleans to protect the brotherhood, and only the death of his beloved mentor, Priest Lombard, could lure him back. Walking into the old hangout gives him a familiar thrill—especially when he gets an eyeful of the bar’s delectable new owner. A wild ride with her is just the welcome Ajax needs. Then he realizes that she’s Priest’s daughter, all grown up and totally off limits.
Sophie Lombard loved her father, not his lifestyle. She’s done with bikers . . . until Ajax roars into town—arrogant, tough, and sexy as ever. And although he treats her like the Catholic schoolgirl he once knew, Sophie’s daydreams tend to revolve around sin. With the very real possibility of heartbreak looming, Sophie knows better than to get too close to an outlaw. But every touch from Ajax is steamier than the Louisiana bayou—and heat like this may just be worth getting burned.

The story is about a man named Jacob(Jakes) Patrick Wallace who is sent back in time over various lifetimes. He thus carries knowledge of a global plague called the Husk plague, that causes people to go crazy and bloodthirsty, that will spread throughout the earth and that leaves only him with the power and knowledge to try and stop it. Throughout the book he deals with various people in his life including a love interest named Julia Baldacci and his younger brother named Andy. This first book mainly sets the scene of the oncoming plague by giving glimpses of the future in 2017 etc but mainly plays out over a period starting from 1995 up to date. The ebola virus which ravaged west Africa during 2014 plays a central theme in the book and helps to set the pace of the oncoming plague. The antagonist in the story is for the first part mainly played by a man called Rudansky who forms part of a larger group of people which is mainly referred to as the Company. The Company helps to set the scene for a larger worldwide conspiracy which dates back as far as the early 1600’s. With the VOC as the main background of this conspiracy, hence the settings in Amsterdam. Jakes however also starts to develop certain abilities which helps him to be stronger, faster and even some psychic abilities which helps him throughout the book from time to time. Later in the book it becomes clearer that even the main antagonist Rudansky is merely a puppet for the bigger threat namely a man called Lord wittenheer who is the creator of the company and who has lived since the 1600’s. Later in the book it also becomes clear that this man also happens to be the father of our main character unbeknownst to the main character though which is off course only revealed to him at the very ending of the book. The book ends with Jakes still in 2014 facing off against his father in a dream that he had, setting the scene for the second book which bring us closer to the release of the actual virus and the effect it will have on civilization, with the virus taking a equal but secondary role to jake’s main battle with the company who is still trying to reclaim the world as their own.

Sometimes we want and need to practice focusing.
This book provides each reader with a unique, simple, and friendly way to add daily focus to his or her life.
A proven way to make your book effective is for you to randomly choose one word each day. And, although you may not realize it, by turning your attention to that word a few short times during the day, you will experience less worry and be more focused.
You'll now find that you are officially involved in your life, and that the process has probably happened rather easily.
Life will soon change from hours of randomly tossing around a ball (worrying) into days with a greater possibility of scoring points (being happier).

Can a single-minded assassin reclaim
his humanity?
For years Last Strike has faithfully
served Unknown Identities, the covert agency that saved his life.
With no memory of his previous identity, he's become exactly what the
program needs him to be: an unstoppable assassin.
Dr. Daria Johannson joined a top secret
scientific research team with the noble goal of preventing loss of
life on the battlefield. When they used her innovations to turn her
first patient into a cold-blooded killer, she vowed to make amends
and expose the dangerous UI program.
When Daria becomes Last Strike's
target, her only hope of escape is reminding him of the past he's
forgotten. With her life in his hands, will he follow his training or
fight for a chance to live - and love - again?
Unknown Identities - an alternative for elite soldiers and spies facing criminal charges... if they can survive the program.
Unknown Identities - an alternative for elite soldiers and spies facing criminal charges... if they can survive the program.
Excerpt from Last Strike
Colfair, Iowa
March 25, 2:45 p.m.
Last Strike stood sentry on the
sidewalk near the black sedan, heedless of the wind tugging at his
long coat. Hands relaxed at his sides, eyes sheltered by dark
sunglasses, he resembled the rest of the protection detail stationed
around town.
That faulty assumption would be the
last mistake of any attacker who managed to get this close to the man
inside the car. Being underestimated was one of the things he enjoyed
about his job. It gave him one more advantage in a deck already
stacked in his favor.
“Boston in February. Yes. That is the
logical explanation.”
Last Strike heard his boss’s voice
through the cracked window. He didn’t bother to speculate or put
the words into context. Not his job. His boss, code name Messenger,
had global interests, while he had only one: do Messenger’s
bidding. At the moment, that was keeping an eye out for danger in
this sleepy little town.
Behind his sunglasses, he scanned the
street for anyone showing too much interest in them.
About now, he wished they were in
Prague or Hong Kong. This small-town slice of the Midwest oozing
Americana put an itch between his shoulder blades. Give him the raw
honesty of urban decay any day over this grating façade of peace and
contentment. To a man, the people here would weep if they knew who
stood on this pristine, family-value street. He experienced a rare
struggle with temptation as he imagined a violent scene, allowing
none of that to show as he stood, unflinching, a consistently
faultless example for the other bodyguards.
“All of the evidence indicated they
were dead,” Messenger said. Last Strike felt the chill of his
boss’s gaze, but he would not cease his surveillance duty until
ordered to do so.
His world was simple and his concerns
few. He followed the orders issued by the man inside this car. Always
in an expensive gray suit, his boss managed Unknown Identities (UI),
a covert network of uniquely skilled operatives. To be recruited was
an honor extended to those men and women who were out of conventional
options, usually due to poor personal choices or some horrendous
failure.

“As a music major, I’ve had to complete four semesters of college music theory. I can honestly say that in those four semesters I did not learn, much less understand, a fraction of what I did reading Music Theory in One Lesson. Each topic is expertly condensed and explained in a refreshing and enlightening way. This text takes all the pain so typically associated with learning music theory and replaces it with one exciting ‘Eureka!’ after another. I highly recommend it.”

When the oppressive ruler of Cuba stepped down in 2018, the Cuban people led by Javier Hernandez started a revolution to prevent another oppressive ruler from taking power. Javier’s beloved wife Vanessa Hernandez was publicly assassinated by an unidentified sniper while peacefully protesting in December 2018. Her death led to worldwide outrage and ultimately the United States backing the revolution. With the help of the United States military, the rebels were able to overthrow the oppressive government on June 26, 2019. The Cuban people were led to believe that the United States military would only occupy Cuba for a one year reconstruction period in order to maintain peace while a new democratic government was created. Several years have now passed, and the United States military presence has increased to the point of militant rule. It now appears that Cuba traded one oppressive ruler for another, and the Cuban people are growing restless for the freedom they believe they deserve.
Meanwhile in the United States, first generation, Cuban-American, Chevita Diaz, is an American news reporter that begins to question the purpose of the United States military in Cuba, and what it may mean for the upcoming 2026 election. Chevita observes that the United States government is becoming more and more powerful, and she is concerned about the future of her country. If Chevita and Javier can keep from letting their feelings for each other stand in the way of their goals, they just may form the perfect partnership to change the world.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
John Phillips was born in Portsmouth, VA on February 20, 1984, and was raised by his single Dad, Terry, in Chesapeake, VA. After graduating from Western Branch High School in Chesapeake, VA he attended Old Dominion University in Norfolk Virginia where he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering in May 2006. Upon Graduation John began his career as a Mechanical Engineer. In December 2010 I graduated with a Master’s in Engineering Management also from ODU. John decided from an early age that he would not let his career define him as a person. He vowed to himself to continue learning and evolving as a person beyond his college experience and professional career.
He now lives a couple hundred yards from the ocean in Virginia Beach with his fiancée Morgan Sandberg, and two dogs Mickey (French Bulldog) and Lexie (St Bernard). John's hobbies include golf, surfing, and fishing. He played baseball throughout high school at Western Branch High School in Chesapeake, VA, and growing up a baseball fan he has always been fascinated with Cuba and the baseball players that came from Cuba. Although he has lived in the Hampton Roads Virginia area his entire life, he enjoys traveling all over the world to gain a perspective of different cultures.
Inspiration as stated from the Author: The inspiration for Cuban Grit came when I watched the 30-for-30 special on ESPN titled, Brothers in Exile, about Livan and Orlando Hernandez. Livan and Orlando are Cuban half-brothers that both defected to pitch in the major leagues. After watching the 30-for-30 special, I had a dream that I was in a coffee shop in Havana when a group of American Soldiers walked in. After waking up I thought up the whole storyline and wrote Cuban Grit in six weeks.

A spy presumed dead only wants his life
back... the undercover bride is a surprise.
CIA officer Andrew Garner died in an ambush he plotted, taking three soldiers down with him. Or so everyone believed. After years of living under the radar without a country or a friend, he's tracked the real culprit back to Charleston, South Carolina.
Army Counter-Intelligence officer Laura Talbot signed off on the reports of Garner's death as well as his responsibility for the tragic ambush years ago. Hearing he might be alive, she travels to Charleston to confirm the rumor with her own eyes.
But it's more than a simple case of mistaken identity as Laura and Andrew must improvise and outmaneuver a team bent on killing them both.

Excerpt from The Ghost
RC Investigations Office Haleswood,
SC
“This looks serious,” Ross
Carpenter said, joining his partners Rick Dryer and Eva Battaglia in
the Haleswood office of their investigations firm.
Rick’s new wife Nicole stood near the
window, her gaze on the street below. They rarely had reason to
either exclude or involve their respective spouses, so naturally Ross
wondered if this meeting involved any of the skeletons rattling
around in Nicole’s past.
“It is,” Eva replied, waving him
over to her side of the desk. “Nicole caught these during Rick’s
last case.”
“The bank bag thief in Charleston? We
closed that and turned it over yesterday,” Ross said. “Did we
miss something?”
“Nothing related to the case we were
hired for,” Rick answered. His head tilted toward his wife. “But
she found a connection to us that I’d overlooked.”
Ross couldn’t remember a time when
Rick had overlooked anything. Not during their military service and
definitely not back in the civilian side of life. “Why call me up
here just to dance around it? You’re all acting as if you’re
afraid to tell me something.”
Rick’s somber face twisted into
something resembling sympathy. “Nicole caught Andrew Garner in the
background.”
“That’s impossible. Garner…”
Had turned traitor on the other side of the world and been ripped
apart with shrapnel courtesy of an IED. He couldn’t have survived.
Ross had seen the remains. The scorched clothing, the blood. “Garner
is dead,” he said, his voice hard under the onslaught of the grim
memories.
“Take a look, boss,” Eva said.
He bristled at the calm tone she used
with irate or panicked clients. He was neither. Garner was dead.
She’d enlarged a portion of the picture, zeroing in on a man seated
near the garden wall of a sidewalk café in Charleston, South
Carolina.
“A doppelganger,” Ross said,
ignoring Rick’s sarcastic laugh. “One of Garner’s strengths was
his common, forgettable face.”
“Have you forgotten his face?”
Eva hit a key and the entire series of Nicole’s surveillance photos
filled the screen.
He bit back the retort. Not her fault
he was suddenly filled with rage. They’d nearly lost the entire
team out there thanks to Garner’s greed. Over Eva’s monitor, he
met Rick’s gaze. “What do you want from me?”
“Permission to pursue and verify,”
Rick began. “Nicole and I can -”
“Permission denied.”
Eva sucked in a breath. Ross felt
Rick’s glare biting into the top of his head as he bent for a
closer look at the pictures. No, this wasn’t how he typically
conducted RCI business, but Garner was a special case. The man was a
unique and special danger if he was somehow strolling around on this
side of the grave. “Let me call in a favor,” he managed, trying
to smooth ruffled feathers.
“Who?” Rick demanded. “I know
you’ve got connections all over, but who would you trust besides us
to verify someone like Garner?”
“It’s not Garner,” Ross insisted.
It couldn’t be. The man was dust. But barring some miracle or
perfectly executed plan, Ross would not expose anyone on his team
again. Once had been more than enough.

When Norman knight Jobert de Brevrienne claims Oxbury in the name of William the Conqueror, he discovers that one of the Saxon defenders is the daughter of the eorle who ruled the settlement. Realizing he needs her skills as a chatelaine and her rapport with the villagers so Oxbury will continue to prosper, Jobert makes peace with Edeva. But as they work together to restore order and prepare for winter, he worries the blond “hellcat” will betray him to the rebels as soon as his back is turned. Even more troubling is the realization he’s falling in love with her.
Edeva vows to kill the Norman monster who has overrun her family’s lands and stolen her heritage. But when he shows himself to be reasonable and just, her animosity begins to ease. She finds herself torn between aiding her brothers, who seek vengeance against the usurper, and her longing for the handsome knight, who has conquered her heart even as he takes control of her homeland.

Excerpt:
Behind my back, Katie Lee asked, “What are you doing in my closet?”
Like a hound flushing out a quail, I dug deep to contain my nervous energy. I held my stance and pointed. “Is that Nash’s?”
She didn’t even look at me when she said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
It wasn’t my business, but I couldn’t stop myself. I was
furious that she hid something for him in our room. For all I knew, he
was a serial killer and body parts were fermenting in our closet. Before
she could
slam the door, I pulled on the suitcase, tumbling the plastic zip bags
that rested on top into a heap.
She grabbed the side handle and snapped at me, “What are you doing?”
“I’m opening it.”
She hung on. “It’s not yours to open.”
In a tug of war, I yanked then let go. Katie Lee toppled to the floor and clunked her head on a desk leg.
Macy appeared in the doorway. Not sure how much she’d
seen, I didn’t care. My roommate wasn’t bleeding, and even if she were, I
wouldn’t have noticed. I was obsessed with the case that lay
equidistant between
us.
Dropping to my knees, I applied pressure to the lock until it clicked.
Katie Lee sat on the floor and shot me a look of pissed-off defeat.
Macy didn’t interfere or pick sides, but closed in behind my back.
Turning the heavy case to face me, I slid the zipper around the track and opened the flap.
Macy pitched a shrill whistle.
Bridget joined the gawking audience and yelled, “Holy shit.”
Seeing all the twenties neatly stacked and bound by rubber bands, I told Katie Lee, “This is a problem.”
